gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 I distinctly remember the "10 year" post. Now Gruber is saying Goins is better defenGruber than Tulo hahahahaha. Gtfoh Gruber He is a better defender than Tulo, not by much though.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 He is a better defender than Tulo, not by much though. No he's not. I looked it up, it's not even close actually.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 He is a better defender than Tulo, not by much though. Both the eye test and analytics say TULO is better. Goins is good but tulo level.
KinofChaos Verified Member Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 Barney > Goins. He is a better defender than Tulo, not by much though. LMAO.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 By all rights, he should be optioned when Travis comes back but on a team where clubhouse seniority seems to drive decisions more than strategy, he probably stays. I hope not.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 I remember people on the board last year wondering if he would be better at SS for the Jays long term than Tulo lol. Thinking he was a 2 Win player at SS. And I will make money from it.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 A ton of atom balls. If he were that, I'd be happy as a pig in s***.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 Don't worry, queen of the hive. I am merely pointing out that when Goins first came up, he got crazy BABIP luck and Gruber never let it go. Since he lacks the spine to admit mistakes (or perhaps he doesn't even realize he makes them due to self absorption and/or dumn) he simply doubled down on his position and will never let it go. See, when Goins was getting a bunch of fluke hits for 2 weeks, that's a perfectly valid sample to draw conclusions from. When he's been really bad for almost a month, it's SSS and people are idiots for thinking otherwise. Like Ceciliani ?
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 He is a better defender than Tulo, not by much though. Delusional
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 He's contributed -0.5 fWAR this year, and projections have him below replacement level. Exiting his prime years and has thus far accumulated a paltry 0.8 fWAR in 248 career games. Was the hive right, or can Ryan Goins stick? Discuss amongst yourselves. It seems to me the hive got caught up in the excitement. I remember a lot of (Gruber is RIGHT!) threads last year. Here is an insidious theory It was not just Colabello -- it was more -- when the mushroom got caught it had to stop.
flafson Verified Member Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 According to Statcast, Goins is the best in the league in release time from when the ball hits his glove to when he throws it away.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 WRC+ is 10 and dropping..........OPS could fall below .400

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 According to Statcast, Goins is the best in the league in release time from when the ball hits his glove to when he throws it away. According to fangraphs Goins is also one of the worst hitters in the league.
flafson Verified Member Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 According to fangraphs Goins is also one of the worst hitters in the league. I was trying to pin point a not so known fact. Everyone knows about Goins stats from Fangraphs...
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 I was trying to pin point a not so known fact. Everyone knows about Goins stats from Fangraphs... Big Cecil said the same thing 1 page earlier.

Yeah, the hive do have short memories and love to stir up s*** they already admitted they were wrong about. How f***ing pathetic can one bunch be?
jays76 Verified Member Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 He's fine as a defensive replacement and backup infielder. Obviously, over a larger sample, he has been exposed. He can't hit, and if you ever convinced yourself that he could, you were lying to yourself. Nailed it! Thread over 4 posts in.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 Yeah, the hive do have short memories and love to stir up s*** they already admitted they were wrong about. Im not on the Goins train but this is from the "Ryan Goins Can Stick?" thread Sept 1st 2015. We were all feelin pretty giddy about the Jays at that point. I am a man and I can admit when I am wrong. Here's to you, Gruber. Here's to you. lol jk Did Trouba start a thread? I have him IL'd. Who the f*** cares about Trouba, this feud is between Gruber and I, mono e mono, and as of now I will admit Gruber's got the upper hand.

We were all feelin pretty giddy about the Jays at that point. There were actually more but who's counting. 1.5 WAR last year and stuck nicely combined with apologetic posts and threads, to I'm definitely wrong and dillusional because of a two week slump. Oh the great baseball mentality the hive bring..

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 i think you missed the "lol jk" in white font. I'll look again. It was tongue in cheek anyway. Let's hope Travis gets back and plays close to what he did, and that Goins starts to hit the fking ball some and takes some more BBs
tercet Verified Member Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 Can we cut bait with him yet? His career OPS is under 600 now... Over nearly 800 PAs
GD Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 Wow, all this time later and that white font is still fooling guys. Love it
_Nox_ Verified Member Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 Ever heard of SSS? You're not allowed to say this and then ignore projections which, at their core, are primarily built to ignore SSS noise. They interpret small sample sizes better than your intuition ever will.
_Nox_ Verified Member Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 Yup, he was quite useful in 2015. Or: His results were that of a luck neutral useful player in 2015.
_Nox_ Verified Member Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 atom balls Can someone update the forum meme power rankings plz? Thx.
BTS Community Moderator Posted May 19, 2016 Author Posted May 19, 2016 Wow, he's really bad. Discuss.
Statman Verified Member Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Ryan Goins is the 3rd worst hitter in baseball only to be outdone by Russell Martin and Erick Aybar.
