Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Amazing start by Sanchez. He was obviously gassed in the 9th though. Really sucks that he couldn't finish the game and get the win.

I don't think he was gassed. He had to sit for a while in the dugout. That often messes a pitcher up, late in the game.
Cyborg Verified Member Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Sanchez now 11th in the league in pitching WAR with 2.1, flanked by Strasburg and Lester.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 The offense really need to get their s*** together. This was just a brutal way to lose..
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 If we get Stroman to pitch like Sanchez a little more we could have a great young 1-2 punch going forward!!!!!
Sorrow Verified Member Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 I'm really pleased with Sanchez. FIP in the high 2s, xFIP at 3, 2.1 fWAR so far, low BB rate, high K rate. This is good.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 If we get Stroman to pitch like Sanchez a little more we could have a great young 1-2 punch going forward!!!!! He had a track record of doing it once. If he can get back to the 4SM/breaking ball guy instead of the 2SM/Spot corners guy than maybe, just maybe, he can get back there.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Is it too early to start a Sanchez vs Syndergaard thread

I'm not positive, but I think Sanchez threw 6 or so 4 seam fastballs last night....might be a sign that they will be adding it back to Stroman?

We can only hope. I'm not sure if the front office looks at SwStr% data (though I'd imagine they do) but look at what Sanchez was able to do with his 4SM and CV last night. 4SM - 14 with 28.6 Whiff% CU - 15 with 26.7 Whiff%
puphood Verified Member Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Sanchez looks stronger and has been looking better as the season goes on and now the curve ball looks devastating, I think he will continue to trend up........

I'll take a solid 2/3 any day of the week though.
Governator Community Moderator Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Lowest xFIP in the AL. No one here could ever have predicted that.
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 9, 2016 Author Posted June 9, 2016 This is pretty bananas at this point. The reasonable opinion on Sanchez in the offseason was probably something like: If nothing changes he can't start. If there is a minor skill change then maybe he is a backend guy. He would need a major skill change to be anything more than a #4 SP. And now we are talking about a guy who is third in the AL in fWAR - basically in the Cy Young race.
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 9, 2016 Author Posted June 9, 2016 Some of us had faith in him! yeah but some of you were (are) idiots
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Lowest xFIP in the AL. No one here could ever have predicted that. Absolutely insane, especially since he has a low HR/9 as it is. This is pretty bananas at this point. The reasonable opinion on Sanchez in the offseason was probably something like: If nothing changes he can't start. It's basically the Carlos Carrasco momentous metamorphosis from 2009-2013 into the beast of 2014-Present.
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Exciting times for Sanchez ahead. I hope this offense can figure it out - even if its just a wild card spot we end up getting Sanchez could very well steal the game if he keeps it up.

My statistically supported argument was that he had already shown the skills of a back end starter and that the ground balls would play well with the best infield D in the league. Guys in the past had succeeded with 60% ground balls and rather crappy K/Bb numbers. People were so hung up on a tiny FIP sample that they weren't being logical at all. I thought he had a decent shot to improve his command and be a nice innings eater due to his age, but this performance is far more than I expected. I'm very very impressed.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Lowest xFIP in the AL. No one here could ever have predicted that. I predicted 3+ WAR, which I thought was quite bold. He's going to exceed that easily at this rate. Crazy thing is he still has a lot of room to improve / upside.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 I swear 95% of your posts involve "less 2 seam" or "Carlos Carrasco" Both are good things, no?

That opinion is only true if you rely on misleading MiLB stats and disregard the real improvements he was making through his 2015 starts.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Never thought at any point in 2016 we'd be looking at Sanchez as being way better than Stroman, but here we are.
