Oh I agree with you. He's fine as organizational depth. I just have a feeling that he'll be up.

Hell, he might even be an ok platoon partner with Smoak I guess. I just really hope we pick up someone better at the deadline.

Thats gibbons boy...... You can't keep that man out of the lineup....

We can't keep him in the minors after his pre-suspension relief stint is done can we? Has to be on the MLB roster all year right?

He has options, they can keep him in AAA rest of the year. I honestly don't think he's coming up unless he has a .400 BABIP in AAA lol.

Seems like it

Who will they replace though? I don't really see where he fits with a healthy Smoak and EE.

Not to mention Jose likely returning as a DH/1B for a bit.

Is everyone as happy as me to see the new slide rule is no longer discussed or an issue? That took what - 6 weeks for players to adjust and for it not be an issue anymore? They should do a follow up interview with Goose Gossage and point out that he's a F'ing moron.

What? The rule remains terrible. I'm expecting them to change it in the off-season.

Listening to Bob McCown and Gregg Zaun argue about baseball on the radio is aids.

What about?

Roidabello is coming back wether we like it or not. They have it set up perfectly for him to return once he's eligible.

You know Gibby is just itching to get him in the lineup to, it's sickening.

"When the Blue Jays acquired Jason Grilli his numbers weren’t particularly impressive. With a 5.29 ERA and 13 walks in 17 innings, he appeared to be declining quickly.

Sixteen appearances in Toronto suggest otherwise. After another stellar inning Sunday, the right-hander has 25 strikeouts against six walks in 14.2 innings with the Blue Jays for a 2.45 ERA." -BNS

Pen has allowed 43 of 119 inherited runners to score and blown 13 saves. Grilli has been a god send.

I was hoping to God's heavens and Hell that Jepsen made it to us, in for a free claim, change of scenery can make a heck of a difference for these back end guys. It's too bad the Twins took him back. Would've loved that guy.

No because unlike tennis, pitch-tracker doesn't determine what is a strike or a ball. Many umps consistently call the inside pitch (out of the strike zone according to pitch tracker) and not the outside, low and not high etc. Problem arises when the ump calls a pitch differently from what he's been calling it all game. No way to challenge that.

Agreed, consistency is what all teams look for. If they go that route, then go all out a roboump at the plate, using a Pitch/FX zone. Use him for plays at the plate.

One the most read articles on line was in the Globe and Mail yesterday on Jose's gambit and declining value. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/baseball/kelly-opposite-bargaining-tactic-left-bautista-in-the-same-bad-spot/article30942821/

Its interesting Jose said he didn't believe in hometown discounts, but is now intimating more for a "face of franchise" contract which is essentially a "hometown premium". Cant really have it both ways.

His first deal was fair to both sides. It was no hometown discount. Nobody knew if he was a one year wonder and PED allegations were all over him.

Jose is quite capable of coming back and going on a tear that would get him to 2.5 to 3 WAR ish (good for us- hope he does) but when you look at comparables he is closer to Beltre's deal at this point. At least Beltre plays a premium position well still. What Big Papi is doing to aging curves is so rare. Last person to do it was probably Bonds. Jose is so far removed from his 6.5 and 8 WAR seasons now to go another 5 yrs would be insanity.

Bingo.

Yep, Gibby will play him everyday at 1B the moment he gets back.

Ugh. I'd rather have Lake platoon with Smoak than Mushroom. Lake's OF defense looks like Pillar's compared to Mushroom, and Lake's terrible.

He was released and then signed with the Rays... nobody was going to claim him.

I thought he was DFA'd? Regardless you pedantic ass, I think we should've been in on him.

Better?

I'm just saying you were hoping and praying for something that wouldn't happen. He signed a deal with the Rays, presumably because he was comfortable with them the first time. Anyway, plenty of relievers should be on the market.

I'm quite aware of that. Yet, my first point holds water.

I think a guy to target is Joaquin Benoit. He's a lot like Grilli, a veteran that maintained his velocity and K's, but saw a spike in his walks. We could probably get him for salary relief.

Not bad. I'm pulling for Trevor May.

He'd be a great target, and for our rotation next year.

Disappointed that the Twins fired Terry Ryan though, as he seemed like a putz to be swindled. Probably values ERA.

He used to be a forward thinker... we'll see.

Does anyone doubt Papi is taking PEDs right now?

I don't think there is any question. I'd say the majority of papi, cano , and ee are

There are some good minor league guys like James Hoyt, Mike Broadway, and Grant Dayton. For big league guys, I wouldn't mind Hector Neris, Jumbo Diaz, Adam Ottavino, Nate Jones, Trevor May, Tyler Lyons, John Lamb, etc.
