nextyear Verified Member Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 I predict that Goins will have 2 hits tonight. The time in AAA gave him a chance to work on his swing and to remember that he is not a power hitter (he can get sent back down at any time if he isn't humble and prepared to listen to the coaches). Too bad that Goins doesn't work on his outfield game, Darwin Barney can do it. Based on Zaun and Kevin Barker past statements, any professional infielder should be able to play a good left (or right) outfield.

nextyear Verified Member Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 Are you the guy who claims that the team is better with Goins than with Travis because their record was better with Goins last year? I will stick by that for last year; obviously the Blue Jays are much better this year with Tulowitzki at SS and Travis at 2B. Last year the Blue Jays did play much better with Reyes at SS and Goins at 2B. This year Travis gets to play with Tulowitzki at SS (instead of Reyes). Last year Goins was a better defender at 2B than Devon Travis, but this year there is little difference (Travis has greatly improved on defense). Travis is now an established star in my opinion, whereas Goins has shown that last year was probably his career year on offense (even though he was below average at the plate) and defense.
nextyear Verified Member Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 I don't know that humility and not listening to the coaches are necessarily Ryan Goins' problems. He showed potential at times last year, however, the odds are against me (that Goins will get 2 hits tonight); there is a good chance that Goins will strike out 3 times and hit into at least one double play.

nextyear Verified Member Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 At the start of last year (2015) and in 2014 I said a few times that the Blue Jays were almost unwatchable for me; I like good defense and the Blue Jays were a team made up of individual stars who could mash the ball, but they threw many games away on defense. How quickly people forget. The Blue Jays improved the team by improving their defense not their offense. I appreciate Devon Travis now because he has improved significantly on defense; the Blue Jays weren't winning with all offense and poor defense in the first half of 2015.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 Is there no Gameday thread today or did someone start it that I'm ignoring?
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 Even the Braves have won over a third of their games - we can still take this game. Hopefully Bauer's command is atrocious Hopefully the Karma police smite Bauer for his douche american pride tweet after the Canada day game this year. GO JAYS!

He lost the game for us last night. He looks tired. I hope they give him a couple of days off before sending Goins back. Ryan looked spectacular in field last night.

Chris Gimenez ® C That lineup is a bit better than last night's lineup - Smoak is out and Tulowitzki is in (so there should be fewer strikeouts). But I wonder why Saunders is back in RF. Carrera has much more experience in RF, and Saunders normally plays LF. For my future reference, where did you get the lineup? I see the Blue Jays lineup on the Barry Davis twitter, but what about the Indians lineup?

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 BTS I thought Martin was finished. Martin played games at the beginning of the season where most would have hit the DL. He's a warrior and with Thole as our backup he toughed it out. When he's reasonably healthy he can still hit, handles the staff well, frames well and plays defense well.
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Jesus what a dog s*** of a lineup. Significantly better than yesterday with Tulo and no Smoak tbh. JD being off two games in a row after an off day is a bit concerning.

I thought the same, and then to make myself feel better, i looked up today's game five years ago (L 5-1 v A's, 64-62)... 1. M McCoy 2. E Thames 3. Y Escobar 4. A Lind 5. E Encarnacion 6. C Rasmus 7. B Lawrie 8. J Molina 9. J McDonald SP H Alvarez ugh... It can always be worse...lol

Was throwing a perfect game...Goins error then Next inning walked a guy then Travis threw away the easy double play Weak single, Sac Fly, HR, weak single Wasn't bad but it kind of snowballed after the Travis error and Upton playing hot potato. Was a long inning though and raining a lot so they took him out. Also, had a blister possibly forming. Wasn't bad but an outing like tonight happens.

Good start really except it was another outing where he gave up a lot of hard contact on 94-96 MPH FBs and several key hits with 2 strikes. He clearly wasn't trusting his secondary stuff much and they were sitting on the FB. If he doesn't have his secondary stuff he is pretty much 2015 Sanchez for LHH.
