If Happ can sustain what he's done over his past 6-7 starts - he's going to win the Cy Young. #stud #4seeeeemas

If Happ wins Cy Young you look to trade him in the off-season for a haul. The chances of him ever being this good are extremely unlikely. He really only had that one atrocious start against Tampa I believe. They just pelted him think he gave up 3 or 4 homeruns and went 2 innings.

I don't like this 6 starter ******** for Happ. They should just skip Sanchez a couple of times in the rotation. Like wtf does he need to pitch tommorrow for.

Have him throw a side session and skip his turn

He also had one s***** start in Detroit. However, I think most GMs will be plenty aware they'd be trading for him at his peak value so it's not like the market will be flooded for him. Unless you get an offer you can't refuse there's not much point in giving up a cost controlled arm during contention years

Happ getting 20 wins is a lot less likely with a 6 man rotation. That's probably his best shot at winning the CY.

Well I'm not saying you have to trade him but if you can get an amazing return you absolutely do it.

Yea it's almost like Liriano could be used as a spot starter for all who need a break. Rest Sanchez a 2 or 3 times this year, maybe Estrada. He'll get some work and not everyone would have had to throw every 6th day.

Ah well, I guess if they all want it we can't really complain. For all we know it benefits everyone with some rest late in the season.

Am I foolish for thinking 2017 could be a legitimate shot at a winner too?

I know this core has a limited window but....

Happ

Estrada

Sanchez

Liriano

Stroman

Better bullpen than we started this year with

3B - Cost controlled MVP

SS - Expensive but top 5 SS

2B - League minimum very good player

1B - ? (hopefully Edwin)

LF - cheap and acceptable

CF - League minimum Gold Glove caliber CF

RF - ?

C- Expensive but top 5 catcher

If we could find a way to keep Edwin and sign a 2+ WAR RF to replace Bautista... And the progression/regression of the starting rotation averages out (Eg. Happ regresses but Stroman is better. Liriano as good as Dickey... etc)

I'm not down on the 2017 team

All that said, let's go for it in 2016 first and see what happens :)

As this season has gone on I've always felt that way. I mean the rotation has carried this team when the offense has failed and we haven't experienced that in years. There's not much reason to think it can't continue next year. One of Saunders/EE/Bautista would help though, it's a pretty thin FA market otherwise if I'm not mistaken. If we're relying on Smoak everyday, that' one major swap in value over EE.

It all depends on how he finishes this season. His 18 starts in Pittsburgh last year and his last 6-7 with the Jays (since going back to the 4 seamer) have been amazing....top 5-10 in baseball. His first 15 with the Jays weren't bad, but were seemingly hampered by excessive use of his 2 seamer (for some unknown reason).

JA Happ is a really good pitcher.

Rogers keeps raking in the $. With them firmly in contention, I don't see why payroll should not rise into the $150-175 range next year if the dollar stays where it is. And even then Rogers would still be making a ridiculous amount of money.

Blue Jays

For the month of July, the Blue Jays delivered an average audience of 1.07 million on Sportsnet, marking a 69% growth in audience year-over-year

Season to date, Blue Jays have delivered an average audience of 962,000 viewers (2+). This marks an increase of 54% in comparison to the average audience at the same time last year (626,000)

Season-to-date, 46% of the Canadian population has watched a regular season Blue Jays game on Sportsnet

36 Blue Jays broadcasts surpassed the one-million viewer mark so far this season, compared to three at the same time last year

Last Sunday’s battle between the Blue Jays and the Baltimore Orioles for top spot in the American League East delivered an average audience of 1.18 million on Sportsnet ONE, the most watched broadcast in the channel’s history

Blue Jays Central, hosted by Gregg Zaun and Jamie Campbell, has delivered 43% year-over-year audience growth in July

Other channels and platforms are not doing as well as Sportsnet, that is why.

That's unfortunate.

Sorry

Sportsnet execs sold the Jays ad packages as an add-on to their hockey packages. The ad money is being allocated to their hockey products while it's using the Jays ads as a sweetener

So no money

lol remember when people complained saying Rogers Cup should have been on SN1 instead of the Jays game. Looks like SN made a huge mistake.

1. MLB, Blue Jays at Astros, Monday, Sportsnet: 1,380,000

2. MLB, Orioles at Blue Jays, Friday, Sportsnet: 1,300,000

3. MLB, Orioles at Blue Jays, Sunday, Sportsnet One: 1,118,000

4. MLB, Orioles at Blue Jays, Saturday, Sportsnet One: 988,000

5. CFL, Argonauts at Redblacks, Sunday, TSN: 541,000

6. CFL, Lions at Stampeders, Friday, TSN: 508,000

7. CFL, Roughriders at Alouettes, Friday, TSN: 417,000

8. Auto racing, F1 German Grand Prix, Sunday, TSN: 225,000

9. Tennis, Rogers Cup men's final, Sunday, Sportsnet: 219,000

10. Tennis, Rogers Cup men's semifinal, Saturday, Sportsnet: 212,000

It's only a mistake if you can prove they would of had more viewers for the Jays if they were on the main channels more then what they would lose with the Rogers Cup moving to SN1.

Gibby:

No one in the Jays org thought Sanchez would he THIS good as a starter

Sanchez wanted to keep starting

Pete Walker was heavily involved in the decision and thought Estrada would benefit from more off days

Knew the team would "take bullets" either way

Loving on Happ

Liriano might benefit from Martin. Will see how it goes. May or may not stick as a starter.

Relieved about Tulo. Hand hurts a bit but doesn't seem to be affecting his swing.

Feldman is long man and could be backup starter, but if someone gets hurt they're more likely to go back to a 5 man rotation

Loves the improved bullpen

Don't worry Gibby, pretty sure no one in the world thought that either.

Ummm I predicted 3+ WAR before the season started, but he's been better than that so ya

That can't be true, he was pretty good in the rotation last year before he got hurt.

I think he was pretty lucky last year. He still walked a ton, and even when he didn't walk guys, he had many 3 ball counts.

This year he is a completely different pitcher than last year's starting binge.

He walked a ton yes but he had the pitching arsenal to get out of it a lot of times. Some luck yes, but also a reflection of his talent.

It is very common for young, talented pitchers to struggle with control when they first come to MLB.

Sanchez' upside was quite evident last year. What no one could predict was the speed at which he would start reaching his ceiling.

Has he been asked about Barnes at all?
