Friggin Gibbons is an idiot.

I don't quite get this. According to fan graphs Devon Travis is a 6 WAR per year 162 player... Darwin Barney 2 WAR 162.

Of course Travis may be playing a bit over his head in first 100 games... but Darwin Barney is playing over his head so far this year...

All things being equal I hate to an older player taking time away from a younger one...

And in this case things are no where close to equal.

No one understands except Gibbons, it makes no sense.

Is the 27 wRC+ swing between Smoak, being above league average vs RHP, and Upton being basically Pillar vs RHP offset by Bautista's D that much? It's not like you can't pull Bautista in the 7th/8th if you have a lead and need better D, let him get his 3 at bats.

Who knows what's bothering Travis, might have a cold, might've slept funny and has a cramped neck. I'd prefer to give our manager the benefit of the doubt until we hear more.

I never realized this but Jose Bautista holds a record by appearing on 5 major league rosters in one season. In 2004 he played for the Orioles, Rays, Royals and Pirates and was briefly on the Mets for about 5 minutes in between trades.

For every injury in minors and majors?

Thought you were referring to last season... he played 100+ games in his 2 full minor league seasons, so injuries down there were probably minor and not a reason to sit him in the majors. Plus Gibby said he sat him because Barney was 4-6 against the starter tonight.

Maybe those teams saw him as another Danny Valencia in the clubhouse. Maybe he thought he deserved more playing time, even though his numbers were nothing compared to when he came to Toronto, and he was a distraction to the team.

I'm not sure about his attitude back then. I think he was a rule V draftee. So they kept trading him, which sometimes happens with rule V guys.

They have to offer him back to the old team if they send him down, but they can trade him instead. So if a team has roster needs, they might end up trading trading a rule V guy to another team who has room on their roster.

In 2003 he was 22, had injuries and played at low a... but I guess teams saw the potential and drafted him in rule V for 2004.

But he wasn't ready, but seems to have been in the majors all of 2004... not much playing time (maybe injuries too?) and didn't hit well.

Somehow ended up traded back to Pittsburgh via New York Mets via KC. Not sure what that was all about. I thought he had to be offered back by any team that wouldn't put him on the roster.

If the Red Sox don't add anything after Pomeranz, I'm shocked and relieved and I think we can beat them down the stretch.

We can, AND WILL, beat everyone down the stretch.

Hoepfully in a small sample size of one game, they score 12 runs and Gibby decides it was a good idea and sticks with it for a while

Yes, Upton starting over Smoak is an upgrade. It might take Gibbons a few times to implement on a semi-permanent basis, but it will happen eventually. Smoak is not good, and if he's upset about being benched I'm sure he'll wipe his tears on his completely unnecessary contract extension. He'll be fine.

Upton in the OF full-time and just alternate DH between Bautista and Saunders. Start Smoak when Edwin needs a rest.

I like it

I thinks that's our best possible lineup and defense with what we have available

That's debatable I think Saundwrs is worse than Bautista

I honestly believe our best possible lineup has to include Barney.

He has done a great job for us, but no. Travis has 4 WAR potential.
