E: Actually wait this is even more retarded than I realized. Do you even know what Stroman's grip is versus a normal two seamer? His fingers are literally like centimeter closer than normal. His grip is essentially the same as Francisco Liriano's and Doc's.

As far as the grip goes, Tabler said that his sources in the org were worried about his grip causing the pitch to spin off the side of his hand more than his 2014 grip. He said this on BC a month ago.

This is a bit out there - but it seems when you read about hitters making mechanical adjustments - it's to lower their hands and create more loft in their swing (vs. the chop down stuff that was promoted previously). We all know lofted swings hit sinkers better. Are we seeing a trend where hitters are moving to more loft in their swings to counter all the pitchers who are using 2 seamers in lieu of 4 seamers?

I'm with Bowden on this one..let the young kid as long as he isn't showing a lot of fatigue. Skip his starts a couple times the last couple months with Hutch filling in and let him start.

That's how I'd play it out. Also, I'm not a doctor but Stroman's workload worries me more than Sanchez. Stroman got to what, 160+ innings a couple years ago, he pitched a handful of games last year and he's good for 200 without being re-oiled? Sanchez is a big strong arm who throws effortlessly and hardly tires late in games, Stroman is 5'8 and looks to throw his hardest every pitch from inning 1 through 7 and has put more mileage on his arm. Why does no one ever talk about him?

I disagree. Upton in RF and Bautista at DH is better than Smoak at 1st and Bautista at RF

Here's a counter argument -- Upton in LF, EE at 1B and Saunders DHing provides more overall value (defense, offence and speed) than starting Smoak --- regardless of who's pitching righty or lefty, true or false?

 

I think the decision has less to do with Smoak and more to do with not wanting EE to be hurt at 1B

I don't understand the confidence everyone has with Bautista at first over EE, even though EE has played the position semi-regularly since 2012. Why would Bautista suddenly be the better option at 1B between the two of them? If the job is so easy then just leave the experienced guy there.

Hes more athletic. Bautista just can't catch fly balls. They can split time at first that would be awesome. As long as our OF defense becomes better. Its hard to have 2 butchers in the OF everynight.

I would rather Bautista play 1b, EE is probably better at it but putting him in there as a full time 1b increases his chance of an injury.
