What will it take to resign Saunders and his .997 OPS? Age = 29 but this is first "good year"

4-5 years $12million per? Is it better to sign him before he reaches free agency, or is he just a 3 month hot streak? At this point he's a much better target than Jose Bautista.

4/50 sounds like it's in the right ballpark.

I would stay far away from Saunders personally... He's a ticking time bomb

i agree with this. unless we get a nice estrada type deal i would just let him walk. i dont want to invest heavily in him at all.

Does this Hold True if he was to be our new DH moving forward next year?

If saunders keeps this up and doesn't get injured the jays can be in a great place come the offseason. Qualify Bautista, EE and Saunders. 3 potential first round picks..

Doesn't strike me as the durable type when comparing him to Bats and Edwing.

for me, yes. i just dont trust him long term at all. and i say that regarding both his health and his recent success.

What about 3 years? If you let EE, Jose, and Saunders walk what do we do for offense in the AL East?

Re-sign Encarnacion and sign Reddick. I'm not going to get into $$$/yr but if EE takes a 3/70 and Reddick takes 4/80, I would do it. Some on here probably know a players value better then I, but Reddick is the guy I would to replace Jose. Maybe Valencia for first base but I have a feeling he is going to be overpaid.

We be cellar dwellers for a few years, most likely

Nothing wrong with that, the later reward is worth it

things is those 3 are gonna get a lot of $$$$$ for too long of a time at this rate. it would pain me greatly to see them leave but it would hurt even more to have them handcuffing our roster. and no i am not for outright tanking & rebuilding like some others but a lot of the time the smart thing is to save the money and take the comp pick. this is probably the apex for Saunders value anyways. i could live with 3 years but he would probably be looking for a 5 year deal.

Do you Qualify Dickey as well, since I keep reading it is a very very thin free agent market?

It's a risk, but I can't see too many teams giving up a pick for a 40+ yr old knuckleballer who needs a personal catcher.

Keep EE let Sanders and Bautista go. (like we miss Price) Trade Tulo or give him to somebody if anyone wants him.

Tulo has a full no trade clause.

After seeing the Mets give up a pick to sign Michael Cuddyer and knowing what kind of pitchers some teams are throwing out there as their #4-#5, there are quite a few teams that may find giving up a pick to sign him for 2/25 as a bargain.

It's not pretty and hard to watch but he gets the job done most of the time.

The last few runs we have had in the last month we didn't have Tulo going 0 for 4 in the middle of the lineup

Now with Tulo batting 6th again we will be dealing with a lot of Tulo stranding base runners. I hope his bat picks up but honestly if he hits like this he should hit 9th

No Smoak today

Donaldson DHing

Tulo still 6th

Carrera

Donaldson

EE

Saunders

Martin

Tulo

Pillar

Travis

Barney

Not a good mixup, I would have like to see Tulo down the order.

He's also basically useless in the OF, he's a 1b/DH waiting to happen.

Of which we may have neither of next year after the off season!

Sooo there is that to consider also.

Very true. But it's one if those scenarios where the player would have to be open to the idea, of which we obviously have little to no clue.

He's not a butcher in the OF, but his range is very limited and just doesn't get to a lot of balls that even an average fielder would get to

Yup but it is hard to have SuperStars at every position without a much bigger payroll or young'ins!

He'd be fine as a 1B/DH. I think a 125-130 wRC+ is realistic going forward which plays anywhere. Jays still are going to need a LH bat next year.

If we do a rebuild and you take first round picks for Jose and EE and possibly Saunders then you basically hold up the white flag. I am not against it as eventually the team would do this to rebuild but if you do it there is no point in not going all the way. You'd have to consider making a big JD trade and land premium prospects and you would have to sell very high on Happ and Estrada who have tiny contracts in relation to their numbers. And you do everything possible to unload Tulo and Martin.

The reason is that you can't half arse rebuilds in the AL East - there is no point in coming in 3rd. It would be better to fire sell the team revamp prospects (hopefully finish dead last in all of baseball to land the number one overall pick). You either go all in to win now and the next couple of seasons or else finish dead last and get the number 1 pick. I hate the in between half measure BS were we get the 15th-22nd pick.
