Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 He is not that good a fielder and hot and cold at the bat. Why pay marginal players 5m and have so many up and comers stuck at 500k. Things need to be balanced out a bit. Three or 4 of the high price help are not worth their money and should be cut free. JMHO Wat?

Cause he's getting at least twice what you're offering on the open market.

intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 Seems aggressive considering he got shut down. Has he been in many games since the setback? His presence should mitigate any loss of production from Jose's absence, though. Lineup is still pretty scary, tbh.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 Give Saunders the qualifying offer. So many options after that (extend him ala Estrada, he accepts, or he declines and you get a pick). Doing anything now when he's at the absolute height of his value would be foolish. The Jays window to win is 2016. Saunders is having a career year in 2016. Enjoy it and hope it leads to the promised land. Worry about 2017-beyond after the season, because there are way too many red flags with him to get tied down right now.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 Not sure why they rushed Tulo back. Could have gave him a longer rehab stint.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 It's sort of like how so many were so eager to offer Melky a contract during the 2014 season and were freaking out because the team didn't make much of an effort to re-sign him and instead they traded Happ for Saunders. There are always options out there. But yeah, that off season was absolutely awesome. JD, Martin, Travis, Saunders, Estrada. Also, I was thinking the other day how terrible it was to have kept JPA over Gomes. However, keeping Pillar over Gose and getting Travis has been huge. Just goes to show, players emerge that weren't expected to. Who knows, maybe Pompey will get a chance to provide value on both defense and offense next year or even later on this year. Again, relax, the franchise isn't crippled like so many thought after the 2013 debacle.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 Oh and the Tigers let go of Carrera immediately after getting Gose and the Jays picked him up. So basically, the Jays kept Pillar and traded Gose for Travis and Carrera.
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 Was tulo bitching about doing a rehab stint or something? How many games did he even have under his belt before he got shutdown? 2? He's going to be terrible..
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 Not sure why they rushed Tulo back. Could have gave him a longer rehab stint. They rushed him back because they're out Bautista for the next two weeks. They could have given him a longer rehab period but I don't think it's a mystery why they activated him ahead of time. Is a recovering Tulo worse than Goins? No way. If he's healthy enough to play MiLB, he's healthy enough to play MLB.

A guy that hardly ever tweets has tweeted that Bautista has canceled his golf tournament as he is expecting to be traded at the deadline.

I just hope they physically didn't rush him, as in his quad is fully healed and he won't suffer another setback (he's starting at SS so you get the feeling he's fit physically). He can start getting his timing right up here, we're crushing the ball we can wait him out.

For a FO who has already stated they'll be moving the team's best starter to the pen by August, I have to think they wouldn't make a desperation move with Tulo while the team is scoring 60 runs a game daily and 1 GB out of the division lead with two days off next week. Tulo may not be up to speed, but he's healthy enough to play.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 Its weird cuz it feels like this year I have seen Pillar botch a few more plays in CF than last year. This is one of the reasons that most people don't fully understand certain defensive metrics and what they really represent. What they do not represent is the few misplays every players makes every year nor how many highlight real plays they make. WhIle they do take those plays into account, they cover every play a fielder makes, how difficult that play is (on a scale of how probable the play is going to be an out) and how many outs they make on those plays in relation to league average. Pillar has made his share of highlight reel plays and mental mistakes, but overall he is converting far more plays into outs on balls hit to his zone than league average. And right now he's doing it at an insane pace

Key22 Verified Member Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 What will it take to resign Saunders and his .997 OPS? Age = 29 but this is first "good year" 4-5 years $12million per? Is it better to sign him before he reaches free agency, or is he just a 3 month hot streak? At this point he's a much better target than Jose Bautista.
