ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted March 11, 2016 Author Posted March 11, 2016 Bautista being unusually calm I thought that was savage. Stoeten described t as patting an old man on the head and being polite while tearing him apart at the same time.
Key22 Verified Member Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 I'm here to make baseball great again I tell you. Folks there is a problem in baseball. People come to me all the time and tell me that there is a problem in baseball and I know it. I know it. No one knows more about baseball than I do and I know that baseball fans are suffering. They're really suffering and I want baseball to be great again. And I can make it great again because I know the right people to fix the problem. You may have never heard of them but I have a list of people who can make it great again and these people are the best. First I'm going to build a wall - that wall in Fenway is nowhere near as good as my wall. I am going to build a wall around every park. A big wall and Jose Bautista is going to pay for the walls. I'm going to make him pay for the walls. Look I know all about walls. And they're going to be really big walls - so big that Jose can't hit the ball over the walls. Jose is paying for them. In fact he's going to build the walls. And we're shipping out all the emotional players back to their countries. You're fired! How's that for emotion. No more emotions. Look I love Jose Bautista - some of my best friends flip their bats. But we have to make baseball great again. No more bat flippers. If you see those crowds supporting the bat flipping - you should assault them - don't worry I will pay your legal bills. Bat flippers and bat flipper fans are losers. They make our country worse and they make baseball worse. Look, I flipped more bats than anyone in the history of the world. No one is more of an expert on bat flipping than me. I flip my bat three times a day and I often want Ivanka to flip my bat as well if she were not my daughter. I know all about bat flipping. I have a big bat too - my bat is bigger the most - can you see my hands - I have a big solid bat and I flip sure - but this is baseball.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 I think Bautista is generally liked by his team mates. People have always wondered but he's probably not a "clubhouse problem" like some have wondered. I mean, we never REALLY know but it seems they like him as a teammate. It seems like the problem was maybe the lackadaisical guys. (Who are all gone now)

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 He does have a point though, it seems all the whining is from pitchers. Why are pitchers such pussies?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Man I really love David Ortiz. No f***s given.
baseballsss Verified Member Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 He does have a point though, it seems all the whining is from pitchers. Why are pitchers such pussies? Because pitchers are the ones giving up that huge homerun when the bat gets flipped. It's a s***** feeling to give up that homerun so they need to bitch about something to get it off of their minds. In the end the pitchers just look like whiney bitches but really they just feel like s*** to.

I wonder what the reaction would be if a batter struck out, the pitcher fist pumped, and the next batter avenged his teammate by walking up to the mound and cracking the pitcher one time in the ribs? I bet that player would receive a lengthy suspension. Baseball makes no sense.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Pitchers need to suck it up if a guy hits a dinger and flips the bat but doesn't stare him down or do anything to taunt the opposition. If he pimps it a bit while looking at his teammates or something, that should be fine. If a guy hits a dinger and stares at the pitcher while running to 1st then I can see the pitcher drilling him next time. That happens in every other sport. There's celebrating and then there's taunting. Just last week Henson stuffed Barnes and stared at him and then there was a confrontation. If Rodney somehow saves another game and shoots his arrow into the sky, that's fine. If he shoots it at the batter, then there will be a fight. I'm sorry, but there's no situation where the appropriate response is to hurl a hard projectile 90+ mph at a defenseless person. That's really an attitude that needs to be fixed. There are pitchers who stare guys down too, should they get a bat to the knee? It's really the same thing.

The form of retaliation is up for debate. In baseball, it's always been the bean ball. In hockey, it's the big goon punching your lights out. In basketball, it's hay makers and bitch slaps. In football, it's huddles and face masks (seemingly the 15 year major penalty seems to prevent a lot of retaliation in football.....)

I don't agree that any of those other sports are validated either. If the guy is a dickhead, the guy is a dickhead. Deal with it.

Getting hit in the ass, or back, or back of leg, elbow pad, ankle guard, shoulder is not the same as a baseball bat to the knee.

Kinda How many times have you seen a guy get injured due to a a broken bone in the hand, foot, elbow, knee (not everyone wears a pad). A pitcher can't always predict where he is going to hit the guy especially when he is reaching back for something extra. As far as i am concerned throwing at someone is intent to injure and would like to see more suspensions I.E in Royals vs Donaldson Bau vs O'Day even when stroman admitted to hitting a Oriole. I Think it is very cowardly from a pitcher standpoint because they can't do a damn thing about it.

I agree - but it just goes back to the "don't be a dickhead - or there will be consequences" argument. Nobody ever threw at Johnny Olerud b/c he's a beauty who didn't piss anyone off.

It is very cowardly and I'm not advocating that it's okay or that it should be morally accepted, just the comparison given was poor. Getting hit by a pitch is extremely common and usually doesn't result in broken bones or serious injuries whereas a baseball bat to a pitcher's knee would most certainly end his season or career. There were over 1500 hit by pitches last season alone.
