King Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Exactly Though he was also just referring to this season Add another full year in the bullpen and he'll be saying the same thing next spring training. In fact he's already started.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 One more good season as a reliever and then trade him. Given the market for relievers and his age, sell high.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 He already said earlier in spring training he doesn't think his arm would be able to handle the workload of being a starter coming off tjs and then a full year in the bullpen. I believe he's talking about 17' King.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Osuna doesn't want to start and Sanchez doesn't want to pitch out of the pen. Soon Pillar is going to say he doesn't want to play center. s***, that's too bad. What a waste of some great talent.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Is this f***ing PeeWee where we can just f***ing play where ever we want....
intrigid Verified Member Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 The Osuna thing is understandable. Being taken out of the game makes the whole cross and point to the heavens thing kind of awkward.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Osuna article: https://sports.vice.com/ca/article/roberto-osuna-doesnt-want-to-be-a-starting-pitcher Understandable he wants to be a closer. They get paid a ton in arb. Funny part from the article: I ask whether his countrymen are angry with Trump, or whether they laugh at him. "They laugh about it because it's silly to think that they're going to put up that wall," Osuna says. "And we don't care. If you've got the visa, you can cross to the United States and you can do whatever you want. Everyone knows that we Mexicans work so hard and we don't come here to do whatever we want to. We are so scared about the police and other stuff. In Mexico we can do whatever we want to but not here. "I've been in the United States for the last few years and I'm still feeling a little bit afraid to do some things, like I'm driving and I don't want to go over the speed limit because I don't know if I'm going to get in trouble or not [with police who stereotype]. We don't come to the United States to do what [Trump] says."
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 There must be a funny story behind this
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Wow I didn't even know Osuna is from the same town where El Chapo was captured. Apparently the gun fight happened literally 3 blocks away. I remember Stephen Brunt was down there for an interview at the time of when it happened but had no idea it was so close.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 "So, should we take a tour of the area you grew up"..... I remember him saying in an interview they had the military/private security with machine guns follow them around everywhere and that it seemed like it was over the top. Lol funny how it turns out.
TilsonBritoFan Verified Member Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Funny that Howarth was on Jeff Blair earlier today saying one of the great stories of spring training was how guys like Sanchez and Osuna are willing to do whatever it takes to help this team win, whether that means start or be in the bullpen. More like the exact opposite - Sanchez only wants to start and Osuna only wants to relieve. They don't seem flexible at all. Not sure what Jerry is smoking but pass it over!

I was tempted to make a joke about senility/dementia here but there's so much of that in my wife's family that I can't do it. Hits too close to home.

I think the difference is they would prefer to start and relieve but ultimately they will do whatever the team wants because that is what is going to help the team win.
Jonzo Verified Member Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Why does Osuna even have a choice? If the team says you're stretching out for starting....you're starting.

Name another 21 year old closer who feels he can help the team win the most in the BP than as a starter? Probably none and I think that's what Jerry was talking about. Sanchez has been vocal that he wants to start but I also think he'd accept any role given knowing he'll get his chance at some point regardless. After the feud between Jerry & Reyes I'm forever a Jerry fan and will back that man up lol. #SmileForJerry

But when he starts voicing his opinions I just want him to stop.

I also don't care for him being so vocal about being such a devoted Christian, good for him but not my cup of tea. I did however, enjoy him ripping on Reyes for smiling all the time after booting a ball, you could feel the frustration in his voice after a 20yr absence of seeing playoff baseball.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 Encarnacion is a notorious slow starter, I doubt he will be ready for opening day. Sure he can stand and swing but his timing will be so off I wouldn't expect anything resembling vintage Edwin until mid May, possibly June. https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7278/splits/?season=career His only good april was in 2012
