If Gallardo's contract is digestible, we could probably even trade him for a prospect comparable to what we could draft at that pick anyway.

Obviously there is a price point where it makes sense. This report is still complete fabrication though.

I can't see Toronto being interested at all in Gallardo. The rotation already has enough contact manipulation enigma bets in Dickey and Estrada.

All public comments indicate that they are more or less happy with the top 6, and mostly focused on improving starters 7-10 on the depth chart.

Ben Nicholson-Smith isn't the type of guy I expect to spew bs. Like others, I'd expect a Dickey deal in place before we see a Gallardo signing.

So a rumour like this comes out right after Shapiro says that Gallardo is not the kind of pitcher they're going after?

Yeah, this rumour is a crock of s***.

BNS, grasping at hits on the interwebz.

Scouting report on Gallardo...from April, 2015

http://www.minorleagueball.com/2015/4/6/8268319/what-do-the-rangers-have-in-yovani-gallardo

Yovani Gallardo was drafted by the Brewers in the second round in 2004, out of high school in Fort Worth, Texas. He had a scholarship to Texas Christian, but the Brewers convinced him to sign. Gallardo has exceeded even optimistic expectations, reaching Double-A in just his second full year and dominating the level at age 20.

SCOUTING REPORT

Gallardo was drafted in great part because of his athleticism: he was a fine soccer player in high school. He was 6-2, 190 when drafted, but has added an inch and 25 pounds of muscle to his frame. The increase in size and strength has boosted his fastball. It was 89-93 MPH in high school, but hits 95-96 MPH at times now, with movement. His curveball, slider, and changeup have all improved, particularly this year. Mechanical refinements have sharpened his control, enabling him to locate his pitches where he wants to in the strike zone. He is cool on the mound and doesn't get emotional.

PERFORMANCE

Gallardo has improved at each level, which is what you want to see. Note the steady decline in his ERAs as he has moved up the ladder. Note his strong K/IP and H/IP ratios, and the low home run rate. His main flaw last season was occasionally spotty control, but that hasn't been much of an issue this year. Overall, there are no flaws in his numbers. Add in the fact that he is 20 years old and pitching great in Double-A, and you have yourself a top prospect.

HEALTH RECORD

No problems thus far. His athleticism should help him stay healthy, although there is of course no guarantee when pitchers are concerned.

OUTLOOK

Gallardo is an excellent pitching prospect. There isn't much more that can be said. He isn't far behind Bailey, and has actually outpitched Hughes since being promoted.

He's ugly. Would definitely be #25 on the board's hot list

Is hotness now something that we should worry about in acquiring players?

That's part of the asset. Right?

You just posted his scouting report from 2006? What does a SR from a decade ago even matter, lol?

Only thing that makes any sense is if you can sign Gallardo for an AAV =< $12M, and then trade Dickey (and maybe Thole) for some kind of lower end SP prospect that is in the upper minors. Then they'd have expanded the depth chart by one name without really subtracting from the MLB team.

Dickey actually fits the Royals ballpark and team well and they have some needs at SP. Dickey for a guy like Christian Binford or Brian Flynn, and then sign a FA SP for the same $12M or less?

I don't know if Gallardo is worth that AAV

If they are going to go after a player with draft pick comp. I'd rather go after Kennedy. Should be cheaper and he is a lot better than Gallardo.

I don't think he will be significantly cheaper.

I assumed you meant within a reasonable range of, you dickfart

the pick is worth, what, $12m? So that'd be a 3/40-48 deal and I don't think he's worth that

unless =< 12 is how you type 6 or something

Keep Dickey and keep the pick instead of signing Gallardo. I mean, the difference between the two next season likely won't be significant, but the difference between the return for Dickey and the draft pick might be. Unless the team is getting a good player for Dickey (doesn't seem likely), it wouldn't make much sense to make that swap.

This is the second in what now seems to be a series of threads of disappointing names in the blanks of "The Jays are in talks with _________".

First Fernando Rodney, now Yovani Gallardo.

Next up: "Blue Jays on the verge of acquiring Jeremy Guthrie"

No one does. You'd have to actually watch Carlos Mencia.

And then you'd have to read my posts. And then you'd have to read Boxy's posts. It's a massive stretch.

After we had the Jays are in talk with Rodney ae acquired Storen

If the trend holds true we are about to acquire a very good starting pitcher

If anybody defends or tries to reason why Shapiro would make this alleged deal, they are retarded.

That being said, no way in hell does Shapiro sign Gallardo, its not even debatable! He's just not that stupid.
