Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doping_in_baseball Yeah, I kind of lost it, lol.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 I personally know ballplayers from that era, and told me it was rampid and never hidden, same goes for the minors, you had poke bros man. 75 to 80% of the boys were poke smack bro's in the clubhouse. Yes 92/93 and prior, not to mention later, lol. There's plenty of testimony to that effect both on and off the record. Ken Caminiti was the first to really blow the lid off the thing.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 I alway remember Ralphy being slick defensively....am I misremembering? Yes.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Yes. Yeah, wins a gold glove while being the DH for his team, lol.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Yeah, wins a gold glove while being the DH for his team, lol. ... Heh!
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Exactly, saying people who still use the term retards don't come off as intelligent is pretty high and mighty. That being said, if didn't go to college, you are a f***ing dipshit I bet you typed this on a Windows you blind f***ing chode juggler

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 If you are trying to say there should be a better start than saves and that a 3 run save ain't s*** because 95 percent or so of those could be converted by any relief pitcher, I would agree. There is certainly a difference in closing out the 8th for the most part, even though I'm a big believer in a closer by committee if you have the players to do it by However, in the case of Hoff vs wag 600 saves vs 400 is substantial in hof discussion and that was shown in the voting. Also true that in real life if williams and Reardon didn't choke, we wouldn't have those banners flying. What's your ballot? You against kicking puppies? We ain't that much different you and I badass bro Williams blew game 6. Jays could have easily won game 7 at home if he didn't. Gossage and Sutter had even less saves at around 300 each. So should every RP above 300 saves get in? Hoffman and Rivera with their gaudy save numbers are largely a product of their era. Who's on my ballot? If I could pick only one from the list of candidates this year, it would be Bonds.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Who among current active veteran players are shoo ins for the HOF? Thinking age 30 plus guys who already have the resume. Miguel Cabrera Albert Pujols Felix Hernandez Clayton Kershaw (edit: s***, he's only 27?) Justin Verlander Yadier Molina How many more are slam dunk guys??

All Trout has to do is basically not get injured. If he plays for 10 season he's in.
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 The remain irrelevant without Bonds and Rose. It doesn't even matter.

Yady Molina *pukes* The only way he should be near Cooperstown is if the Molina brothers are booked 10 nights a year as a sort of house act where they have races, framing exhibitions and grit-offs etc. Edited January 11, 2016 by 43211234

Might not be a slam dunk but Adrian Beltre should get in. Buster Posey should easily get in if he stays healthy. Joey Votto has a good shot. Chase Utley
TRM Verified Member Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Ichiro Beltran David Wright? CC? King Felix Greinke?
Frank Menechino Verified Member Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 No one has mentioned Adrian Beltre yet. He has HOF numbers already imo. Already at 75 WAR.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 No one has mentioned Adrian Beltre yet. He has HOF numbers already imo. Already at 75 WAR. Beltre was literally just mentioned 2 posts above yours

Funny thing is - I'm not sure he's a shoe in because the voters are stupid. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if Ortiz gets more support than Beltre.
wamco Verified Member Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Beltre is a shoe in. Gonna have over 3k hits.

Joey Votto has a good shot. Chase Utley I had thought of Utley and Votto, both have legit shots Had not though of Beltre and should have. Yes, he shoold get in.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 (edited) Ichiro Beltran David Wright? CC? King Felix Greinke? Ichiro yes. I was thinking he was going to be retired but no... Beltran meh. I don't see it. I had Felix on my short list CC and Wright have had high peaks but also some major lows and missed time. As is I'm not sure about them Edited January 11, 2016 by G-Snarls
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 (edited) Ichiro still 65 hits shy of 3,000 Will he get enough PA in Miami this year to get them?? (Mariners should have thrown him a bone to go there for his last season) Edited January 11, 2016 by G-Snarls

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 I had thought of Utley and Votto, both have legit shots Had not though of Beltre and should have. Yes, he shoold get in. Utley's only at 61 WAR....Edmonds had 66 career WAR (which Utley likely doesn't get to) and he's booted off the list after 1 season. Beltran's at 66 WAR, he should have a shot if he can get past 70.

Beltran's at 66 WAR, he should have a shot if he can get past 70. It's not all about WAR. A lot is merely perception; Edmonds was never "feared" like Pujols was, never won an MVP, finished shy of 400 homers and 2000 hits. Edmonds was an extremely well rounded player but it feels like the bbwaa likes the flashy guys. Griffey did basically nothing for half of his career and got the most votes ever. I think no one would dispute that Utley was the best 2b in baseball in his prime and no one was really close. That's the important difference, I think.

Yeah I get that....although Utley wasn't overly flashy either. He was never an MVP, never won gold gloves, no big post season numbers or championship rings to his name. He was a mid 20 to low 30 HR hitter, which didn't stand out much between 2005 and 2009. There were other 2nd basemen between 2005 and 2009 to have big years (Soriano, Phillips, Uggla, Pedroia and his MVP season), although none with the consistency of Utley. For me - Utley was much like Edmonds. A very well rounded player who generated a ton of value on the defensive side (which was grossly undervalued in the mid 2000's).
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
