Laika Community Moderator Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 This is not true. WTF man? Of course it's not. Rosenthal wouldn't say "in the offing".
Hipfan Verified Member Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 lol Wow...just terrible. It's just baseball people! I know it must suck to be a Cardinals fan today but those tweets are just way past the line...

xposbrad Verified Member Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Chicago has waited a long time for this. Proper rebuild, and managing assets. It takes the right GM and deep pockets sometimes helps.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Good for the Cubs. It's nice to be in a market/have an owner that will allow this.
Horses Fart Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Did we sign anybody lately??? Oh wait. Barney!
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Holy s***, the Cubs. Wow. Just saw this. What a strong team they'll have in 2016.

Frag Verified Member Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 People here are losing their minds fapping to this Cubs lineup (and rightfully so) and ours is still arguably better. Tells you how good our lineup is for 2016. Feels like we're not taking full advantage of it though when you put in perspective how good it is. The Jays lineup is the best in the AL. The Cubs lineup is the best in the NL. The Cubs have a superior rotation. I'm jelly.

Cubs also have pretty good control over their line-up. The Jays will lose the two biggest pieces next year and they are old.

K... but our team is super f***ing old and two of our best hitters are only under contract for this year. The Cubs are all 26 or younger and locked up long term. The are most likely going to win multiple pennants in the next 5 years.
Frag Verified Member Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Cubs also have pretty good control over their line-up. The Jays will lose the two biggest pieces next year and they are old. Jays still have Tulo, Donaldson, Travis, Pillar, and Martin after 2016, so there is still room there.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Cubs also have pretty good control over their line-up. The Jays will lose the two biggest pieces next year and they are old. Draft. Develop. Then augment with veterans later. That was always the way to do it. No one had patience. AA had no Farm System when he took over the JP...drafting high schoolers means 4-5 years of development before they even get a sniff at the majors...and people won't wait that long (ie. 2013 deals and 2015 deadline deals) Wonder if Shapiro/Atkins are leaning towards doing that. Re-stock the farm and have them develop as the core going forward...and leave the existing core to either make or break on their own (ie. new big additions to help bolster).

Also throw the Pirates in the conversation for the long-term.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Heyward's deal is 8/184. Never thought an 8 year deal would be a steal but this looks like one.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 11, 2015 Author Posted December 11, 2015 Heyward's deal is 8/184. Never thought an 8 year deal would be a steal but this looks like one. Yep Perfectly reasonable
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 11, 2015 Author Posted December 11, 2015 I'd give that deal to Donaldson in a heartbeat, too if he'd take it
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Heyward's deal is 8/184. Never thought an 8 year deal would be a steal but this looks like one. Heyward is gonna be only 35 when his deal is over......thirty-f***ing five.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Heyward is gonna be only 35 when his deal is over......thirty-f***ing five. Meh. Heyward can turn into someone as useful as Holliday or as bad as Crawford
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Two opt outs!!!! There are TWO opt outs in the contract!!! This changes everything. The value of the opt outs probably puts the "theoretical" value of the contact well up over $200M.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Meh. Heyward can turn into someone as useful as Holliday or as bad as Crawford Man Crawford really fell off a cliff. http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1379&d=1449863693
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Meh. Heyward can turn into someone as useful as Holliday or as bad as Crawford Crawford fell off a cliff at 29 and still put up nearly 3 WAR in 13 and 14, so even if he turns into Crawford, this deal still isn't a bad one.
