Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 They really should trade Schwarber but what would they even need?
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 I do. It'd be cool to be able to witness history like that. I like the Cubs and hope they do well, and since they are in the NL the Jays don't compete against them really. Its not like they are the Red Sox who I can't stand. I hope they win it in 2018 after the Jays go back to back 2016/17
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 They really should trade Schwarber but what would they even need? A solid prospect, a swingman and a bullpen piece? You can never have enough pitching. Then again they can keep him and continue to have great depth lol
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 What? The Cubs and Jays have the best two lineups on paper right now in the majors. No question about it. How can you not be scared lol I don't know because I'm not a frightened child?

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 I hope they win it in 2018 after the Jays go back to back 2016/17 Yeah that'd be cool. It'd be sweet if they face each other in the WS this year. Last year you could tell that was the majority of baseball's fans dream matchup.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 They really should trade Schwarber but what would they even need? Only really need SP depth. They can get a very good young arm to stash in AAA for when injuries hit. I'd move Soler though, I'm not a big fan and you'll get a decent arm for him.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Great signing. Hope they are all in the lineup when I'm in Chitown this summer for their home and home series with the White Sox.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 Any details on the breakdown of the contract? If its frontloaded for the first 3-4 years with the opt out it makes a ton more sense on why he picked the deal.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 What do you think they could get for him? Could probably be a big part of a Fernandez or Carrasco trade I suppose...their rotation is pretty fantastic already, though. Schwarber + Hammel for Carrasco + a reliever?
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 Wonder what they could get with a Soler + Baez package?
nmrch Verified Member Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 People were scoffing at me when i said Heyward would get 200 million a couple of months ago and i didn't even take into account the greater than usual inflation we've seen this offseason. The Cubs are actually getting a pretty decent deal which is a crazy thing to say about a 200 million dollar contract.

I'm actually surprised he sign for under that number. Guess the opt out clause helped, and he must also like the Cubs. Could be a guy who wants to win.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 Nice move by the Cubs, I'm jealous. No kidding. This could be the Jays except AA went derp.

I'd take the Cubs contract over that one easily considering his age. 2 Opt outs are pretty valuable too.

Cool. I remember reading another article that was in a similar vein not too long ago but I can't recall where. I tried googling it and even though I didn't find it I did find these: Freakonomics in 2012: http://freakonomics.com/2012/11/09/does-the-%E2%80%9Cbest%E2%80%9D-team-win-the-world-series/ Boston magazine in 2013: http://www.bostonmagazine.com/news/blog/2013/10/04/often-best-regular-season-baseball-teams-win/ The Week in 2013: http://theweek.com/articles/459165/may-best-team-not-win-baseballs-winningest-clubs-rarely-win-world-series EDIT: Found it, also from fivethirtyeight in October of this year: http://fivethirtyeight.com/datalab/mlb-american-league-playoffs-blue-jays-yankees/

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 I was shocked initially at this deal, but with two opt out clauses?! That's unprecedented, well done by Heywards agent/team. Also, that Cardinal group is disgusting,
