glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 Projected 2 win starter with one more year of reasonable salary left (projected $4.8m). Nicely done depending on who is going to Oakland.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 For Hendriks? Not sure I like this..
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 wtf LIAM!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 I'm good with it. Mitigates the risk of if Hendriks isn't actually much better than he used to be in the rotation, at the cost of some control. Chavez is a nice add. For those that will miss Hendriks, consider his story. He popped up, just like relievers tend to do. Maybe he's a good starter now too but it doesn't hurt to mitigate some of that risk. It's a fair deal for both teams imo
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 If its a 1 for 1 swap this looks terrible. Hendriks is probably better than Chavez outright. Not to mention you lose 4 years.
ace3113 Verified Member Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 I always liked Chavez even when he was with us. Was surprised we just let him go when we refused 1M or something from that Japanese team who wanted to sign him.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 Rather give up Sanchez. Edit: oakland probably realizes he sucks though.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 I'm not sure I like the value for us in trading 4 cheap years of a good swingman for 1 kind of pricey year of a good swingman, but it could work out well for us.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 I think he broke down at the end of the last two seasons and pitched poorly. He's been a reliever but he's also listed at 6'2, 160 which isn't very promising if true. This is a good trade, though!

GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 Rather give up Sanchez. Edit: oakland probably realizes he sucks though. Also Sanchez probably has more market value, based on his higher "ceiling" I guess you could say, and he has an extra year of control on Hendriks (and is younger). Would like to package him with Pillar/Osuna/whatever for a stud if we could.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 Stop I dunno Hendriks was one of the best relievers in baseball last year. If he can even be 75% of that for the next 3 years he has tremendous value. Chavez is good but I just don't like giving Hendriks up for him. I hope the resign Lowe now. Everyone on the team has said they want him back in interviews and he was great last year.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 Stop I think he might be right.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 Chavez is a much better starter from what we've seen. That can't be argued, but I was rather optimistic about what the new Liam Hendriks could do in the role that we are likely to give to Chavez. I'm not going to argue with anyone who likes the trade though, that's perfectly legit.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 I'd rather have Hendriks. I guess this confirms how s***** our rotation is going to look next year. Stroman Estrada Dickey Chavez Hutchison

Could work out well for us, could work out really, really well for Oakland. I like Chavez but I'm not so sure Oakland will miss him at all if they use Hendriks in his role.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 I don't mind this deal, assuming we don't give up anything else on top of it. Also, as long as we still net someone to slot in ahead or behind Stroman.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 Question: If the Blue Jays traded 1 year of Hutchison for 4 years of Hendriks would you be happy as a Jays fan?
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 Question: If the Blue Jays traded 1 year of Hutchison for 4 years of Hendriks would you be happy as a Jays fan? Hutchison is nothing so sure.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 ... 19th best SIERA among relievers last year. I dunno I'd say thats pretty damn good.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 Question: If the Blue Jays traded 1 year of Hutchison for 4 years of Hendriks would you be happy as a Jays fan? Personally, no. I still believe in Hutch though.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 Hendriks was probably our best reliever to be honest. To bad he was used as a mop up guy.
