o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Kratz will be paid nothing because despite what some radicals believe he sucks. Kratz is a minor league catcher who had some nice framing stats FFS. Front offices aren't retarded by offering him nothing, he f***ing sucks. there has got to be a catcher who can catch the knuckle ball and not be a complete wet blanket offensively???
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 there has got to be a catcher who can catch the knuckle ball and not be a complete wet blanket offensively??? It seems like no matter who is catching Dickey there will be a drop off in their offensive performance relative to their offensive skill.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 there has got to be a catcher who can catch the knuckle ball and not be a complete wet blanket offensively??? Well there's Ryan Hanigan, but I don't see that happening.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Dickey doesn't deserve a personal catcher. 4-5M for Navarro is a bad investment.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Thole every 5th day. Roll the money from Navy into the pot for a SP If Martin gets injured, scrub catchers are always available.

Funky Verified Member Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 I didn't mind Navarro but don't want to spend a lot. Having two pitchers that excel with personal catchers is one to many on the team. Estrada is better and signed longer then Dickey so if anyone should get a personal catcher to give Martin a rest then it should be him. Also if Martin goes down fatso isn't a bad piece to have to throw out there for a few weeks vs Thole or any other garbage backup. Dickey excelled in NY and their stadium, they also need a SS. I would absolutely hate to trade Tulo but if Tulo and Dickey were thrown at the Mets with a little salary retention, would it get us one of their young controllable arms? Simple question and kinda off topic but it might help settle which backup we would use. With our offence we should be able to have Gibby himself pitch and stay in games.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 We have Russell Martin. Backup C is a great place to not spend much money. How do Soto, Avila, and McKenry frame? Maybe there will be some useful non-tenders in a few weeks.

I don't want any of those 3 especially Soto because of that annoying thing he does when he throws the ball back to the P. Watching him do that for 30-40 games would be frustrating.

Could try to get a guy like Lobaton or Maldonado. If all else fails just sign Jeff Mathis for a mill. Who really cares.

CHRIS Verified Member Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Jeez, no respect for the best pure hitter on the team.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 As much as I ripped on Navarro, when he hit that game-tying home run off Andrew Miller I nearly wept with joy. Of course, he then put on the winning run the next inning with catcher interference. Really, I'm indifferent if he stays or goes, but if I never have to hear Pat Tabler call him a "good"/"professional" hitter again, I'd be happy.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 This just isn't true. He's like a big soft-spoken teddy bear. Barry Davis: "Dioner, I noticed Marco didn't shake you off once today, and Mark Buehrle never shakes you off. Why is that?" Navarro: [straightfaced] "Dey know better."
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Lest we forget Navarro and Revere both K'd down one run with the tying run on 3rd to end the season. Should probably cut ties with the both of them for that reason alone

I thought the general consensus on the board was that we hated Navarro? Edited November 19, 2015 by Montreal_kid61
GoJays Verified Member Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 I recommend reading this piece from Capital Jays on Dickey's effect on Martin: http://capitaljays.com/2015/11/04/the-knuckleball-effect-on-russell-martin/ Just saw this , Great reading. That settles it for me, sign a catcher for Dickey, I don't ever want martin to catch him again.

I thought the general consensus on the board was that we hated Navarro? Being a below-average player doesn't really have much to do with his personality. He's likeable in a sense, seems like a pretty good guy, understood his role on the team last year despite asking to get more PT elsewhere. He's just not a very good defensive catcher.

How? Goins was striking out a 3rd of the time in the playoffs and Navarro is one of the best contact hitters on the team.

Governator Community Moderator Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 I like Navarro he seems genuine though he's not coming back at $4-5mm.
Cookie Verified Member Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 I've always liked Navarro. Using the official, "Players I'd like to have a beer with" test, he's pretty high. But whoever is the back up C needs to be able to catch Dickey. So if that's not Navarro, he should probably go.
