GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 What other options? 1-Stro 2-Dickey 3- Hutch? (Lol) 4- ?? 5- ???? & the trade market Stop being so short-sighted.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 Obvious like signing 2 FA pitchers (other than Estrada) while hoping that Hutch pulls off a miracle season? Not every team has a lineup like ours and a playoff worthy rotation. Stop thinking like this is a f***ing video game.
DerangedIdoit Verified Member Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 Nice job on backloading that contract. If we really do have 140 million to work with we've got plenty of money left to fill our remaining holes. With the recent Estrada contract in addition to the other contracts and the projected arbitration values. The jays have ~118 million committed for next year. So if the payroll stays the same the Jays have 22 million left to spend The Jays still need to get 2 starters, 2 bullpen pieces, 1 backup catcher and 1 backup MIF. Hutchinson should be earmarked as our depth not the starting rotation. Loup can be the LHP piece fo the bullpen that we need but that should be a last case scenario. Maybe trade Revere for a bullpen piece. Plug in Pompey. Use the extra 6 million on Chris Young?

He's got more upside than any pitcher not named Stroman. Osuna and Sanchez aren't ready to be starters IMO.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 11.5 M for 2016, 14.5 M for 2017 as reported by Davidi Beautiful I like this signing
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 Starting to wonder why this hasn't been finished. because you are impatient.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 Surprised that there's no mention of an option year. There is a vesting option. It's just not being reported.

Osuna and Sanchez aren't ready to be starters IMO. I don't agree with that at all, I would place Osuna and Stro ahead of him, as far as "upside" goes. Osuna will need to be stretched out eventually, why not have him compete for the 5th spot with Hutch?
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 There is a vesting option. It's just not being reported. Good. Estrada looks spiffy in a vest

Osuna and Sanchez aren't ready to be starters IMO. That would still be a last case scenario type of decision as well. I'd be fine with that if we have exhausted all other options. I think he will be more of a strength acting as our depth. Every championship team has good starting pitching depth and he will be ours. Theres bound to be a couple short trips to the DL or spot starts for Hutchinson to prove himself and see if he can stick. I think he needs time to work on it and show that hes ready in the minors before we give him another shot. If we plug him in the rotation and he is disastrous again there will be no turning back. Don't want to take that chance if we don;t have to
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 Good. Estrada looks spiffy in a vest but he has to give back his scooter to accept the vest

rydermike Verified Member Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 Any Lind-Estrada type pitchers available? Not saying I'm expecting 2015 Estrada like performance, but could be a cheap way to find a 5th fringe starter like when we acquired Estrada or previously with Villaneueva that we can plug in for a year or two. Giving up Revere

Giving up Revere Are you willing to roll the dice in a go-for-it championship season? Maybe if we can put the pitcher in the minors and groom him there. Second the Lind deal was unique in its own right. Milwaukee wanted a major leauge resdy player plus they were searching and desperate for a 1B for while before they landed Lind.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 I hope you're right. He's better than he was this year. I hope he gets it together. Your av reminded me, has anyone seen an update on Cecil's injury? We should assume he's rehabbing well and on track for spring? He was ready to pitch in the WS, if they made it. So yeah, he's fine.
ProfessionalAtBat Verified Member Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 2 years Tremendous FA Stro Estrada Dickey Turd + Heyward ?
fireballW Verified Member Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 We are really going to need one of Osuna or Hutchison to step it up in the rotation this year. There must be ab organization somewhere that would value Sanchez as something wouldn't there be?

Ideally, I'd like someone established, but if the alternative is to go with Hutchinson as our 5th starter, then yes I'm willing to take the gamble. I loved what Revere offered us, but at a projected 6.7 million, he might be too expensive for our budget.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 the other thing that people have to consider for pitching options is making a trade in season.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Nothing wrong with this signing. Even accounting for some regression it's short enough term with low enough dollars theres minimal risk involved Thumbs up
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 2 years Tremendous FA Stro Estrada Dickey Turd + Heyward ? Heyward is a great player and I would break the bank for him but so would a lot of teams. A lot of people are predicting a 10 year contract for him, that's crazy. Everyone is still waiting for his power to come back and I believe it will, but if it doesn't do you want him for 20+ per season? He has MVP upside, but at the same time I think someone is going to pay for the upside that may never come.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2015 Posted November 15, 2015 Hard to believe that he's somehow being underrated. Thing is, with the Royals having just won the world series and the copycat nature of mlb now suddenly paying attention to defense and not striking out .. Heyward is going to get paid, but still probably not near the level he should be.
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2015 Posted November 15, 2015 Nice deal here, especially manipulating the backload.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2015 Posted November 15, 2015 Nice deal here, especially manipulating the backload. I don't see the Birds going after him personally, but if they did land him, I'd be both shocked and happy the Jays are going after players of his stature, and help to our team as a whole. Edit: Like floored!

(stoeten) Guy tries to break news and keep fans updated but then just f***s off for days/weeks at a time and leaves his website out of date. How he has loyal followers is beyond me.

For up to date news, I find Shi Davidi's and Barry Davis' Twitter accounts to be best. There are a couple of others but Barry Davis and Shi Davidi re-tweet their news items. When it comes to following baseball and its players, fans can do so in a manner that was not possible 20 - 30 years ago. The individual Twitter accounts allow people to communicate directly with players and follow their lives in baseball. The internet and social media are great!

Yeah, I don't rely on Stoeten for anything. I just think its hilarious that the arrogant piece of s*** constantly neglects his followers by only updating his site when he feels like it. He's a piece of s*** based on his treatment of others and he doesn't deserve to be in the situation he's in - an accredited media person. A lot of posters here would be way better at what he does and deserve it far more.
