Have you taken a look at this year's FA pitching class?

Yes but with Shapiro at the helm, I doubt that he'll allow us to sign 2 FA starters (excluding Estrada).

Obvious like signing 2 FA pitchers (other than Estrada) while hoping that Hutch pulls off a miracle season?

What exactly is so miraculous about Hutchison being a capable #3/#4? Even in a "horrific" season by everyone's standards he still provided 150 innings of 1.5 WAR at league minimum.

How is that a recipe for disaster? There are like 30 viable free agent starters.

Stroman

FA

Dickey

FA

Hutchison/Hendriks/Osuna

Either Estrada is one of the FA starters, or he's not and the team gets a comp pick. Either works.

Because I doubt that Shapiro will allow us to sign 2 quality FA starters other than Estrada... Or he might sign 2 barely decent pitchers. Dunno, I'm basing my opinion off the fact that Shapiro isn't a big spender... and yeah, I know that he has more money to work with ATM but still.

There are viable starters in this FA class who will not cost a lot.

I don't understand why you think Shapiro won't spend money to acquire good starters at a reasonable price. His situation with Cleveland was completely different than his situation with the Blue Jays.

Shapiro's teams were constantly in the bottom 5-10 payrolls in the league. That's not his own doing, that's on the owners of the Cleveland Indians.

He's def. not a #3. Wayy too shaky and unpredictable and he sucked in 2015 on the road.

Maybe because I'm pessimistic-- but I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt lol, I just hope that he'll sign Estrada for now.

It doesn't need to be big signings. Guys like Hill, Young, Latos, Colon, and Happ could all really help and won't break the bank.

But there really shouldn't be any reason for that insane split to happen again.

I still have hope left for Latos. Even if he's a cancer.

Lackey is another guy I'd really like to pursue. He won't be dirt cheap, but you know the term will be short.

I want nothing to do with Latos... can't even imagine how much of a POS he must be for the Dodgers to DFA him after only 24 IP. There are definitely major character issues that we aren't privy to.

Based on what? 12 days on the job with a new team in a new market with different payroll parameters?

Yeah and they're decent if my memory is right... IMO we need someone that could put up an Estrada 2015-like season to pitch after Stro... Plus you could add another guy from that list and we're good to go...

Nah, based on his work in Cleveland and on his comments about AA. Seems pretty conservative when it's time to go after big players.

2 years 26 mil

http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/blue-jays-reach-two-year-26m-agreement-with-estrada/

TORONTO — The Toronto Blue Jays have reached agreement on a $26-million, two-year deal with Marco Estrada, pending completion of a physical, ahead of Friday’s qualifying offer deadline.

The move, which could be announced shortly after Friday’s 5 p.m. ET deadline, will plug one of the holes in the team’s starting rotation.

The right-hander could have accepted a one-year deal at $15.8 million, or rejected it outright to test the open market, but the two-year deal will assure him a larger guarantee without the risk of hitting the market tied to a compensatory draft pick.

For the Blue Jays, they will lock in another starter for 2016 and 2017 while spreading the cost over two seasons.

Estrada will join Marcus Stroman, R.A. Dickey and Drew Hutchison in a rotation that looks a bit less threadbare now, although ideally the Blue Jays would like to add two more starters.

Estrada enjoyed a career year in 2015 when he was 13-8 with a 3.13 ERA (fifth in the AL) in 34 games, 28 of them starts. The 32-year-old also impressed while winning a pair of elimination games during the post-season.

Surprised that there's no mention of an option year.

Anthopolous must own the patent for contracts with patents. Has exclusive rights to signing contracts with options.

Nice job on backloading that contract. If we really do have 140 million to work with we've got plenty of money left to fill our remaining holes.

Lol tempted to make comment that could get me banned
