burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Well at this point it's not really clear if LaCava really brings anything to the GM role. I mean we don't have very much to go on but I will say that his choice of attire today was pretty questionable. He definitely doesn't seem as well spoken as AA or Shapiro which I think is pretty important in the GM role. Maybe its just nerves from being on camera, who knows.

It's been less than a week since AA left and only Shapiro's first official day. LaCava has the job atm because it can't just sit idle. The phones are probably already ringing; somebody with knowledge of the team has to be answering those calls. Once other candidates have been vetted, LaCava probably goes back to his job and someone else will get the gig.

They need someone who has been here and knows the org. Lacava will be important to have around for a while yet.

I don't know, he interviewed for other similar positions, he has experience with this club and Shapiro. Seems like the right fit.
500LevelSTH Verified Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 i really don't know how loria gets away with what he does - both with the fanbase and the league; this whole expos-marlins with him, henry and selig is the epitome of a old boys network... Lorianwas a shill for the commish and took on the Expos as a favour/test of his committment to MLB. Hes a f***ing joke of shill....Shapiro is a manfred guy... Another shil.

fireballW Verified Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Interesting comments by Ricciardi in recent interview on fan590. As a guy who got his roots in the Billy Bean system, he talks about how most of the recent WS winners are not teams that put a huge emphasis on analytics. Also talks about how the teams in the world series made moves at the deadline and how prospects are expendable for good current pieces (paraphrased).

Probably trying to soften the blow on the Mets trade.

I'm not sure what the hell JPR is trying to say lol

Blue Jays were more of a scouting org. than an analytical one. TheBlue Jays use analytics as well as the Royals I'm sure so that is almost all of the teams in the postseason. Which teams that I mentioned would you say aren't analytic clubs?

I researched it better afterwards and they are all pretty into analytics. It was about equal in the playoffs. Teams that go with a mix and teams that seem almost 100% committed.

The teams that have not used analytics (Phillies, Rockies, Diamondbacks) have been absolutely terrible. If you want to look at WS winners too the Red Sox and Cardinals are 2 of the biggest proponents of analytics.
