Was going to post this. He's, at best, third in the baseball ops pecking order down there. Leaving a GM spot because his feelings were hurt and then taking a lesser role somewhere else seems like a terrible set of decisions.

I'm pretty interested to see how AA fares in this new role. I guess I've never thought of him as a particularly astute scout, but maybe there's some seemingly untapped knowledge in that man's head.

It's not like his skills are diminished. Everyone knows he can get the job done as a GM. Maybe he wants a role that is less demanding for now.

 

It's no different than the Yankees having Chapman as their primarily closer and Miller end up being a set-up man. Just cause he got demoted doesn't mean all other 29 teams don't think he can be a closer anymore.

Plus, it took him a while to land somewhere...this must have been his fallback option. All in all, he's probably regretting his resignation big time, the stooge.

I love this narrative that AA just worked so much gosh darn harder than everyone else that he burnt out. Like his AGMs were putting in 35-hour weeks and he was pulling all nighters on the reg.

His AGMs probably worked long hours during the week but its hardly the 24/7 job a GM is. When a GM is at home he is still going to be working the whole time on his phone and you really never have a break. AGMs can go on vacations and that since someone can just fill in for their duties.

Being a salesman (in the plumbing industry, for example) is the same thing. There are many jobs out there that require continuous work outside of work hours.

 

Let's not pretend that being a GM is some sort of unparalleled profession.

or maybe he realized that the Jays are in for a long battle with mediocrity after this year and that he wasn't going to be able to run it the same way as in the past. AA left while he was perceived to be on top so that he isn't unemployed in 3 years.
