Beeston will talk

Beeston was talking about his love for the Jays. Maybe Beeston will take over as team GM. It is possible AA didn't like how a few things went down. I also believe it was possible, especially after the gong show this playoffs, that maybe Shapiro didn't want Gibby around.

AA wasn't under contract. What was Shapiro to do? Put a gun to AA's head and say sign here? Put a gun to AA's head or you're fired?

Why quote me if you didn't even read it? This isn't Shapiro's fault. He was mistakenly offered too much autonomy and the team will undoubtedly pay the price on the field. High end GM's don't grow on trees and the chances that we see an improvement are relatively small.

You're saying that the org should have given Shapiro less authority so that more authority could have gone to a GM that wasn't even signed.

Theo Epstein is an high end gm, is AA on the same level? Unequivocal No

Its amazing how people are up in arms about a guy who rejected an extension. He chose not to resign. Good riddance

It is amazing how bad of an eye for talent people have around here. Losing AA is as significant as unexpectedly losing a real good player.

Hopefully we get lucky with his replacement.

All that Rogers and Shapiro can reasonably be expected to do is offer AA a fair contract. It sounds like they did that.

Maybe the Marlins are moving to Montreal and we just don't know about it yet?

It seems insane for a guy with AA's relatively small amount of experience to walk away over not getting full and complete control over everything baseball related.

I knew this is coming from day one when Shpiro is in town. FYSMC, no love for Shpiro and his 2nd class Indian team.

Please, don't screw up the Jays

Lots of random speculation in this thread... People getting angry at Rogers/Shapiro when we have no idea of the details. For all we know, AA wants to work for another team/city and already has an offer in place.

It will be interesting to see the reactions when Bautista walks next year. This is essentially the same situation and people are outraged haha

They could have signed him on the spot before even getting Shapiro. He wants to be here and wants to be GM. Don't be so absurdly naive.

Really sad to see AA go and think he was underrated if anything. But on the bright side there is now something to follow for the next bit until players start signing. The Jays probably have too good of an offense to screw up for next season so we will be fine.

I am already wondering how this will effect (affect?) ... effect.. EE and Bautista coming up on free agency. Could throw away any chance on getting a good deal there. Good also potentially save us from making a mistake.

Should I apologize or insult you for taking that seriously. What's the protocol?

It's hard to pick up your subtle sarcasm in the middle of your thoughts.

I don't think it was fishy so much as ill thought out and stupid.

Definitely stupid on Rogers' part, but I kind of got the feeling that they wanted to wash their hands of Beeston, and by extension AA, a year ago. Shapiro gave them an out to do it.

I don't think AA was as good as people here claim, but can't comment until we find out who is taking over. Regardless, I think Shapiro's philosophy will help the organization. Whether the execution of that philosophy is successful remains to be seen. The Jays obviously have intelligent people working under AA since he went from "ERA/AVG/SB" to WAR/framing in one off-season, so maybe an internal promotion for someone would work out.

Bautista is as good as gone IMO.

It may affect EE and Bautista

It may have an effect on EE and Bautista

Did you forget about the part where they already tried the ass backwards approach of hiring the GM first and ended up with Beeston? There's really no evidence that Rogers handled any of this wrong this time. You make your hires from the top down. That's just sensible. If AA ended up being the collateral damage of taking the right approach, that sucks but it sounds like they wanted to keep him and he just didn't play ball.

Are you kidding me?????? Who's the best replacement out there now? If he's getting let go I wonder what the chances are that Gibbons will be let go too?

It has to come down to how big of a role Shapiro wants play maaaaaan

Yeah, it's like he thinks he's AA's boss or something, what a prick.

Huh? I didn't say he's a prick, he totally has the right to do that. I just think it sucks he's not coming back

He was a top 5 GM for drafting and that was without particularly high picks. Don't pretend that this is a common skill that you can find anywhere. Sure Tinnish and Parker did a great job, but who hired them? This all comes from the top.

AA deserves cred where it's due. I don't hate the guy, and no one here is panicking because of his draft history. I'm just pointing out that his ability to build a major league squad isn't some alchemy that no one else can reproduce.

Pardon my giddiness, but is it too early to think of manager candidates? Gibby can't possibly survive without AA, right? Don't let me down, Shapiro.

If you believe that this organization was headed in a positive direction before the hiring of Shapiro then there isn't any question that Rogers f***ed up. We're now without the architect of that success because of their lack of forethought. If you think that the organization was headed in a negative direction then they made the right decision. Count me in the former category.

Why are people so up in arms over this? If AA turns down an extension that's no fault of Shapiro. Secondly, AA hasn't been the best GM ever like lots of people are making him out to be. Sure it's bad PR, but I'd trust anyone that Shapiro brings in to just as good a job with a 120+ million dollar payroll.

Why did you have to add these last five words? That's why people don't like you.

Free agent season is about to start. Shapiro doesn't necessarily have time to clean house. I think it could go either way. A manager search probably is probably pretty low on the list of priorities.
