Yeah for the Saturday night game.

next time give me a holler... i found this group for that series; i typically go to the games with my buddies who are either Angels/baseball fans; i thought it'd be fun to sit with jays fans for once

Brunt is a careful and considered journalist. I've heard him twice now talk like he knows something we don't regarding AA's future with the Jays. He is not the type to just swim against the current unless he thinks there is a material reason for it. He inferred it may still happen but he has a view that there is a good chance it wont.

now davidi is saying it

and i can see why so many of you have the opinions that you do re wilner

"it's not a good idea to bring back the same lineup since they won't have the same success the following year. Look at the Orioles" ... lol

I didn't watch it but I don't like a lot of the things AA said in this presser. I wouldn't mind if Shapiro brought in someone else. Especially because I can pretty easily see a clash where AA is not very stat friendly and Shapiro very much is.

Orioles over achieved with their lineup, Jays under achieved with their lineup.

Can't fathom how some people are so quick to run out the guy who just traded for the best player-season in franchise history and brought us to the brink of the World Series. Bringing back AA is a slam dunk, especially since we won't have to compete with big-money teams for his services.

I hope this happens, more for the sake of interest than anything. It would be fun to watch a new regime shape the team going forward.

Seems like a stupid take. Rooting for change just because is kinda dumb especially for one of the best teams in baseball.

Why? AA is going to win Exec of the Year, and rightly so. I want to see him follow this through to completion, especially if given a bit more budget.

BTS isn't a Jays fan, so he'd like to see the franchise fail.

I wouldn't go that far. I don't have an emotional attachment to the team, but I think Shapiro has a chance to build something special, and hope he does.

No way that they let AA go. That might have been the plan prior to the post-season, but he's looking good now.

He''s basically cashed in all our chips (farm talent) for a couple of runs at the post-season, and that's usually all it takes to preserve the job.

it's a bit like a politician giving out tons of special interest money, the year before the election. Make them happy in the final year at the expense of the future.

Then leave when the cupboards are bare, and blame it on the next guy.

I think that's kinda BS, to be honest. The only elite chips we cashed were Norris (who doesn't look special) and Hoffman. We have plenty of young talent under team control, namely Stroman, Osuna, Sanchez, Pompey, Travis and Pillar. It's one thing to trade prospects for a current run, but it's not like we mortgaged the entire future by any means. In fact I'd argue we have more above-replacement level young talent on league min contracts than most teams, in addition to our mid-prime core. This is not a team like the Phillies, completely bereft of young, controllable talent and on the precipice of major decline and overwhelming salary commitment.

AA has looked more saber friendly this past year, as opposed to previous years when he looked like a BA/HR/SB guy, but the fact that he values Gibby so much and despite his team drafting good players there doesn't seem to be a consistent plan with player development puts me in the "replace AA" boat as well. Shapiro is a smart guy. He would find someone capable.

If they do bring him back, I wouldn't be terribly upset, but I don't feel confident with him long term.

This, so much.

We didn't just completely trade away the farm, some of that rose to the major league level and I feel like some people are either looking past or forgetting that.

Yeah, this is a good post. AA has seemingly improved a lot from the days of ignoring defense, buying pitchers based on ERA, investing heavily in relievers, and rostering awful players because of character. He's not a below-average GM.

But I don't think he's bright enough that people should worry if he leaves. There are others who can do as good a job, or better, and with Shapiro at the helm the team has one of the Presidents most likely to fill the GM chair with a quality guy.

Wouldn't miss his GM skills. Would miss his drafting skills a lot though.

GM's don't draft lol. 1st round only and maybe 2nd round.

If Shapiro is as smart as some think, he will keep AA at least until he gets his feet under him. He was hired, not just for the Jays, but to handle all the operating side, and stadium renovations. I would highly doubt that he would make any drastic changes in the next year or so. If AA and him can't work along side each other, then he will find this out down the road and will do something then.

Plus, he doesn't want to start off his career with the Jays hated by fans, because he fired the Jays "savior that got them to the playoffs"

The value gained from the Donaldson and Travis trades seem to get overlooked by a lot of people.

And even the Tulo deal looks great considering they traded away what looks like $40 million in dead money on Reyes contract. Sure Tulo might not be the player he once was and the last year of the contract might not provide any value but to get a player his caliber while only having to trade 1 good prospect and another low level prospect is a steal imo.

I don't care about AA or a new GM. In Shapiro I trust, he will be the man who will give us a WS title

BTW.......BTS, you guy Friedman suxx. The Dodgers and his 500M payroll are s***.

Yeah this is a great point. Even if he doesn't like AA's philosophy you almost have to keep him for the 1st year just to ease the process.

If you bring in someone new you likely are going to have to find new AGM, scouts etc... which is a massive operation while also trying to handle the business operations.

Payroll isn't really on him. And the Dodgers are good.

Also, weren't you all over Zaidi's nuts up until now?

Absolutely, the haters love to overlook these deals. All we hear about is the Dickey trade, which to be objective is the only terrible trade AA has ever made. The Marlins trade wasn't a win, but it wasn't a disaster either.
