Edinson Volquez.

Grant, we're not going to believe you unless you actually produce some real data that backs you up. Come on now.

Volquez came up with the Rangers, but this is just common sense. I'm not going to spend hours to to a massive study on it.

Ricky Nolasco was the last one I can think of. There are exceptions, but the majority of times it doesn't go well no matter how you look at it.

Majority of the time? It barely happens! Unless you're willing to look at trades as well involving pitchers going from NL to AL for the first time in their careers, the sample size would be very small

Those 80 battle tested innings sure paid off.

Small samples can be significant if heavily skewed in one direction. I'm not saying this definitely is significant, but the fact that teams avoid it so much, while regularly bringing in pitchers from the AL to the NL speaks volumes in my eyes.

Good idea. Use a question with a criteria that leaves very few names to make yourself appear correct.

where is random arbitrary date stat man Scott Carsen when you need him?

I don't know why the Jays FO would spend a considerable amount of money on a wild card in Anderson.

Just sign Leake and other quality pieces to make a run in 2016.

Leake is a pretty bad fit though. He would be close to the bottom of my list.

Because if he works out then you have a great asset who will provide value. Look at Francisco Liriano last year... Only got 39 Million and now looks like an extreme bargain.

Can Grant crawl back in his hole? Jesus Christ, what a horrendous poster.

Statistical proof that I am correct in another thread. It's more substance than you have contributed in 10,000 posts.

Is the guy done? What happened exactly damn he fell off hard.

Velocity dropped big time and walk rates were going up. They said after his surgery that he'll have improved velocity so that will be interesting. He was one of favourite pitchers to watch in 2008 and 2009. Its so unfortunate that his career has taken such a downturn the way it has.

I'm shocked nobody has listed some of the bullpen arms available. It wouldn't shock me to see AA try to shorten the games with a lights out bullpen, after watching what Kansas City has been able to accomplish the past two seasons. The bullpen is up in the air for 2016. Will Osuna again be the closer? Will Sanchez be a starter? Lowe is a FA. Loup can't be relied on. Really, Cecil and Hendricks are the only guys who have guaranteed roles next season.

Darren O'Day is a FA and would be a perfect late inning reliever for this club. I know Jose and him had some beefs in the past, which could be a roadblock in signing him. Worth 1.8 WAR and had a 11.80 K/9 last season.

Here are the FA relievers: http://www.spotrac.com/mlb/free-agents/relief-pitcher/

Bastardo (10.05 K/9 and consistently above 10 K/9 since 2010) and Madson seem like solid options. And ffs, I see Hendriks had 1.5 fWAR, good enough for 17th in baseball among relievers and of course his post-season usage was near nil.

And another plus with Bastardo, Angrioter can get him to give us a discount. Just throw in a couple donkeys for transportation and it's a done deal.

The following players, IMO, could potentially be both extremely cheap and surprisingly decent. This isn't a list for buy-lows like Shark, Latos, or Ian Kennedy, who could be very good and will likely get decent money. These guys are best thought of as #6 SP candidates.

The (s)hit list: buy low free agent pitching targets

Trevor Cahill

Bud Norris

Tim Lincecum

Doug Fister

Kyle Lohse

Gavin Floyd

Brandon Morrow

Joe Blanton

Rich Hill

Edwin Jackson

Chris Young

I would love to get Cahill or Morrow to start the season in the pen, as the #6 SP.

I want Timmy or Ejax. Morrow would be a nice idea too but he's shelved again with a shoulder injury so his arm is still glass.

On a side note, how much do you think Bartolo gets in FA? I'm actually intrigued by him, dude posts a very low BB/9 and decent GB% while pushing 200 IP. Plus he's Bartolo lmao. I don't think the Mets are bringing him back and he's expressed interest to continue to pitch, maybe we can take a shot at him, or trade Dickey and sign him, can't be that much worse than Dickey and at least he won't walk the park every start

Bartolo is a fantastic target. He'll probably get a one year deal for around what he made this past year, which was $11M.

I went to see Morrow @ Petco early in the season. His FB velo was there for sure. They were flashing 97/98 on the scoreboard iirc. The SI looked pretty nasty too...

Ayyyyyyy! That's what I'm thinking, instead of paying Dickey $10M for the remainder of the season lets trade him and get whatever value we can get from him and sign Colon for around the same price. No way Mets extend a QO so we won't lose picks either. We might end up with a good reliever and decent prospect for Dickey which can help us a long way.

Yup I saw some videos of him pitching and the velo + movement was there but like I said the health isn't. We'd be lucky to see 40 innings from him, he's shelved for another shoulder injudy

haha it reminds me of what i said at the time; i went with some clients; they were local and they knew i was jays fan; they were asking me how could TO ever let a guy go with this kind of stuff

but hey times are different than when he left TO; he was at $2.5M last year; it may be worth the risk

Bully. My cousin is good, but walks.

I can't understand the argument to bring back Estrada. Magic season driven by a .216 BABIP. Plus you forfeit a comp draft pick. All for the privilege of paying a guy for his age 33-36 year seasons who's K rates have declined the past 3 years.

He was AWESOME for us, but it would be a huge mistake.

I don't really see a scenario where a draft pick will be forfeited. I you offer comp he'll take it. There's no way the Jays are getting that pick. You either sign him for the comp amount, try to negotiate something better or cut bait.
