G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Ben Nicholson-Smith #BlueJays avoid arb with Brett Cecil per source. $3.8 million
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 15, 2016 Author Posted January 15, 2016 Damn, I was kind of hoping for multi-year deal for Cecil.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Having Delabar on board for only 800k is a good choice. The guy still throws hard and can be a mop-up guy at worst. 2.9 million for a dead guy is absurd
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Jays got those guys pretty cheap imho
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Damn, I was kind of hoping for multi-year deal for Cecil. Me too but with how good he's been I doubt you'd be able to sign him to anything in the range of 3.8M AAV or even have the first year that cheap
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 15, 2016 Author Posted January 15, 2016 Jays got those guys pretty cheap imho Not really. All have been at it over projections.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Jays got those guys pretty cheap imho Not too bad At least now they can afford Donaldson
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Donaldson lost his arbitration case last year If you're his agent do you roll the dice again this year?? (obv depends on what Jays are offering on a 1 year deal but...)
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 15, 2016 Author Posted January 15, 2016 Me too but with how good he's been I doubt you'd be able to sign him to anything in the range of 3.8M AAV or even have the first year that cheap Would have probably been something like 5,7,7,7. Does 4/26 for an arb and three FA years sound about right?
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Cecil probably sees where the market is and wants his turn next winter. If he has a typical Cecil season, he's going to get paid.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 It's a lot of guys too. As a reminder: Brett Cecil Jesse Chavez Steve Delabar Josh Donaldson Drew Hutchison Aaron Loup Michael Saunders Drew Storen Part of the reason the napkin math on resigning Edwin and Jose for 2017 is so tough. I think we have 8 guys at league min on so. But if Hutch can put together a solid 2016 he and others gonna get paid in arb. for 2017. And we will need to replace Cecil. Oh well....Rogers and Shapiro's job to wade through it.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Is it Tinnish who is the main guy doing contract negotiation and arb. for the Jays?
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Saunders feels like an overpayment. The dude played like 10 games last year
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Saunders feels like an overpayment. The dude played like 10 games last year If he plays 90 games this year he'll probably be worth what we've payed him the past 2 years.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Not really. All have been at it over projections. Well Storen is making 5.7M in his final year of arb, I don't see Storen being 2M better then Cecil in the big picture.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 If he plays 90 games this year he'll probably be worth what we've payed him the past 2 years. We kind of need him to since we jettisoned Revere
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 well storen is making 5.7m in his final year of arb, i don't see storen being 2m better then cecil in the big picture. $avez Edit: I forgot, he keeps losing the closer's role
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Well Storen is making 5.7M in his final year of arb, I don't see Storen being 2M better then Cecil in the big picture. pretty sure Storen is making quite a bit more than that. Arb. is all about Saves for relievers. Edit: There you go, 8.375 for Storen.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Who has time to add up the payroll as it stands without Donaldson??
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Ouch re Storen Storen was projected to get $8.8 million. We saved half a million.
Ehjays Verified Member Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Storen was projected to get $8.8 million. We saved half a million. We don't save at all, cause the nationals were gonna make up the difference anyway.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 We don't save at all, cause the nationals were gonna make up the difference anyway. I thought they threw in $2 million.
flafson Verified Member Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 We don't save at all, cause the nationals were gonna make up the difference anyway. Maybe the deal was, if you save any arbitration money then no need to send another player later, if arbitration is above X amount, we will pay the difference but you gotta send a player. If that's the case, by saving money we may not need to ship out another player in the deal.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 I thought they threw in $2 million. Nats will give the difference between Revere and Storen's arb
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 We don't save at all, cause the nationals were gonna make up the difference anyway. If that was the case (and it was open ended) - they should have settled for $14M, made the Nats pony up the money, split the profit with Storen and used the left over to sign Blanton!!!
