It's easy to notice a grooved fastball when it gets crushed. Lots of pitchers groove pitches and get away with it, seemed like Drew never did, though. I remember when twistedlogic posted a GIF of Aaron Sanchez hanging a curve ball to Ortiz that he didn't swing at, and some people acted like the pitch was thrown by God himself.

We need to try to remove bias from our viewing experience. I think Hutch has a great arm and is fully capable of being an average or perhaps above average starter.

I believe that was Daniel Norris but ya....

Maybe. Or maybe it's easy to crush a grooved fastball when it's an average pitch and the rest of the arsenal isn't good or getting thrown for strikes.

When you throw 98 with sick movement like Sanchez, no one sits on the curve, so sometimes s*** like that will happen. It's especially true with a geezer like Ortiz, who has to cheat to get around on a fastball that good.

In Hutch's case, the fastball is 91-94 with little movement, and there's no plus breaking ball to worry about, so hitters sit dead red on him. At least that was the case this year. If Hutch's slider magically re-emerges, I think we'll suddenly find that his fastball is also much more effective.

Career .771 OPS vs. Lefties and has traditionally been a good defender in LF, terrible in CF and RF.

The Saunders/Lake platoon is happening!

The only other one I could find was Norris striking out Ortiz in his debut. Looks like a pretty good CB though.

That's the one. And no, that doesn't look very impressive. My point was that Ortiz could easily have smashed that ball 500 feet (but probably guessed fastball) and no one would have made a GIF. The drop was not very impressive and there was very little horizontal movement PLUS that ball is right in Ortiz's wheelhouse.

Well I guess when you're completely devoid of MLB ready pitching prospects, you need some AAA depth. Hopefully these guys can keep the ball on the ground if they end up seeing any MLB innings due to injuries.

Holy s***

We have depth

Ideally at least a few of those arms are young guys with legit upside to come up and provide great innings in case of injury though. Thanks AA. So happy he's gone.

Yeah but at least Shapiro is addressing it the best way he can. Just feels strange having so much pitching depth for once.

Good moves. Now we won't see AA burning young guys Ala nolin

Maybe one of those guy could be the next Chris Young or Blanton
