Laika Community Moderator Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Damn, it would be nice to have Buehrle back on a reasonable 1 year salary. Please come back, Mark! The team needs you!
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Damn, it would be nice to have Buehrle back on a reasonable 1 year salary. Would it though? Iron man Buehrle is no more. This is broken down, not very good at all Buehrle.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Carlos Quentin attempting a comeback. Minors deal please. Love Quentin. Guy was an offensive monster. I think he can probably still hit.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Love Quentin. Guy was an offensive monster. I think he can probably still hit. Seems like the Jays should be able to attract a guy like that. If pitchers go to pitcher's park to rebuild value why not hitter to hitter's parks (especially with a stacked lineup and a real playoff shot to boot)?
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Would it though? Iron man Buehrle is no more. This is broken down, not very good at all Buehrle. You would have to assume that he'll only come back if he is healthy, or can get healthy. Obviously you wouldn't rely on him to throw 200 innings anymore. Maybe he makes 20 starts and is more of a swing man by the end of the year.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Love Quentin. Guy was an offensive monster. I think he can probably still hit. He hasn't been in his career. I guess you could make the argument that he projects better, for some reason. I mean he's obviously better than Howard going forward.

I'm sorry for making you feel dumb re: Alvarez. In the future, try to be less dumb though.

I don't like reading news like this. Ismael Cruz sounds like he would be good at International Scouting...what's the story on him?

THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Not sure how I feel about that. If he's been here awhile, he was probably responsible for the scouting on Osuna, Castro, Guerrero, etc. I think scouting is most valuable in drafting and international signing, after those, analytics is the most suitable choice.

Ismael Cruz sounds like he would be good at International Scouting...what's the story on him? He played a large role in the Jays signing Vlad Jr, and the guy who signed Miguel Castro. He was the head of our international scouting department. Chris King @StatsKing 1m1 minute ago Chris King Retweeted Jon Morosi Big loss for the Jays. Ismael is not only a great guy, but a great evaluator as well

Laika Community Moderator Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Could be a pretty big loss. You never really know though. I expect we'll see a bunch of names slowly leave, guys that AA brought in. Castro, the flame-thrower who pushes the gun at 100 m.p.h., was locked in by Ismael Cruz. GM Alex Anthopoulos got an eye-opening look at the spindly six-foot-five right-hander last year when he played at Class-A Vancouver, and initially thought the radar gun was stuck because it kept flashing 98 miles per hour on his fastball. At the time Anthopoulos joked to Cruz: “You just paid your salary for the next 10 years because that’s a great sign.” Last week, Anthopoulos amended it that to “the next 20 years”. For some reason, Castro doesn’t want to divulge details of how he caught Cruz’s eye, playing in a Dominican baseball program. “He used to be with the Mets. When he went to Toronto, that’s when he signed me up.” Read between the lines: Cruz hid Castro, his tiffany prospect, until he could deliver the kid to Toronto. ... When Jays scout Ismael Cruz discovered him in the Dominican Republic, Castro was had for only $43,000 (U.S.).

So is this basically saying that he screwed the player out of a big signing because of a side deal with Anthopoulos?
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 So is this basically saying that he screwed the player out of a big return because of a side deal with Anthopoulos? No, Castro failed a physical and lost a tentative deal with the Phillies while Cruz was moving to the Blue Jays. That's why Toronto was able to get him so cheap (Castro wanted 180k, Toronto did their own physical and still wanted him but only offered 43k). Basically Cruz wanted Castro while he worked for the Mets, but sat on it because he knew he was switching jobs. I think.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Not surprising. We'll probably see more AA guys jumping ship.
