Ned Yost egregious mistake tracking thread

i'm not sure if yost had anything to do with it but i thought one of the key plays in the 7th was Hosmer either stealing/hit-and-run; there was some confusion on our part between Tulo and Goins. either way, looking at the replay if hosmer hadn't taken 2nd, that sure looked like a DP

Yeah definitely a DP if he hadn't taken off early. On my local radio station they said it was a hit and run but could of just been trying to steal 2nd

So just curious what are they saying about Volquez? His performance last night was masterful. I was on the road so catching bits and pieces of it on my phone. From what I saw, it seems he was around the strike-zone a lot, even with his balls. Do they think it's just luck or is he just pitching to his capability?

This thread is really stupid. It doesn't matter what Yost does. The Royals current roster is probably the second best offensive team in the league after the Jays, keep in mind their (arguably) two best hitters Zobrist and Gordon missed significant time. Deep lineup, 6 guys get on base well (Zobrist, Mouse, Caine, Gordon, Morrales, Hosmer). Three decent pitchers.

 

Teams are pretty evenly matched. It's a coin flip.

 

The bigger issue is how to build a team that will contend for a multi-year window... so they can catch the luck one year, and Harold Reynolds will call them clutch.

Volquez has probably been our most consistent pitcher all year long. Never great but never really bad either. It's kinda funny cause him and Cueto our really good friends and seem to feed off of each other so we just kinda chalked it up to Volquez stepping up after Cueto's performance against Houston, But as a KC fan I'm not sure if either one will have another game like that. Especially against a team like Toronto.

At this point, not really. Escobar has 3 hits in two games, including two doubles. While Gordon is a better hitter, I wouldn't say he is the best hitter on the team As someone mentioned, for whatever reason, the Royals win with him leading off. At this point, I think it is a moot point. And by the way, Ned is now 16-6 in his last 22 playoff games

probably still doesn't excuse the initial decision to put him in. But it does go to show how little order matters. Just throw the names into a hat, it'll piss off fans but probably your opponents more when they lose.

Yeah the Royals are a good team. You can knock Yost all you want with the lineups and so on, but the game is essentially over after the 6th due to their pen, and the lineup stuff has not had any negative impact on their ability to win games. They also have a great defense that pick up their starters. It's a good team that the manager can't f*** up. Similar to the Jays, except Gibby's weakness is the Royals strength (identifying good relievers), so that's where Toronto will get exposed (as they were in game 2). Put it this way, if Hendriks was on the Royals, he wouldn't be picking splinters out of his ass on the bench, he'd be pitching in meaningful spots.

I was just surprised at the stuff that Volquez had. I watched him pitched more when he was with the Reds and it didn't make an impression on me that he had this kind of stuff but I was definitely surprised in Gm1. Not only did he have the velocity, but also the location and he was painting around the outer edges of the zone. Even in the last reg season series, even though with all the extra ciriculars and Donaldson saying he was "good hittin", the fact is that the Jays didn't hit him as hard as you thought. IIRC, Reyes had a couple of hits and there were a bunch of walks.

When I saw Madson yesterday, I thought at the time that if he was with the Jays, he'd probably end up where Hendriks is. Gibby is just something else...
