The beer guy kept bringing out 3 cases of 24 and sat in aisle dealing out. Did that about 10 times easy before 7th. The fours guy behind us said they spent $120 each on beer. Oh man the drinkers really are there for a party, makes for a loud atmosphere. When the 6-4 run scored it was completely silent for 2 seconds.

Reactionary bad playoff thread dumping site thread. Over/Under 15 mins this is in it?

I thought it should have been a delete and ban actually. I'll leave this one to my fellow mods though. Starting threads that could have been put in several other existing threads is my biggest pet peeve

That has no correlation here bro?

I don't really believe in curses. It's just amusing that Moseby was on the cover just before the 87 collapse.

I hate the fact that Sports Illustrated often uses the cover for a prediction with a staged shot, instead of using it for things that actually happened.

Why didn't they just report on the Jays pennant race with the Yankees... and put a shot of Donaldson's homer against Tampa or something.

Or, you know, there's a far more simple explanation to explain this team's struggles. An explanation that isn't rife with a bunch of cliches and narritives. One that is purely logical and to the point. One that isn't totally filled with Occam's razor.

The explanation?... How about, this lineup is just in a slump. No ******** small sample size fueled choking narratives, none of this postseason experience crap, just a simple explanation - our hitters, especially the heart of the order, are in a slump.

There's a reason why baseball playoffs are a crapshoot - baseball, at its heart, is a game of streaks, and there is not enough time in 5 or 7 gammes for those dtreaks to balance out to usual team/player norms. The good players and teams go through more frequent and longer good streaks than bad, and the bad teams and players go through less frequent and shorter good streaks than bad. That's basically what baseball is. Our hitters are just in a slump, and it's coming at the worst possible time. And when hitters slump, they tend to get frustrated and start swinging harder and have less discipline at the plate, like what our hitters are doing. Every single hitter in a slump tends to do this. Either way, this funk we're in has all the earmarks of a slump. Nothing more, nothing less.

That said, what nerves CAN explain, however, is some of our defensive miscues. Martin throwing the ball away is one. That was just a brain fart. But at the end of the day, our hitting slump is what has cost us the most this series.

Interesting that you decry illogical narratives and cliches and then employ one yourself.

The "slump" and the "hot streak" are themselves variations on the Gambler's fallacy. Not saying that a team's past performance can't have a psychological effect on its future games, but generally speaking, random chance tells us that "slumps" and "streaks" are going to happen no matter what and have little or no relationship with one another other than being clustered together.

Maybe the players are just nervous because it's a high stress series. I'll buy that explanation over the idea that they're in a "slump" as if the latest games have anything whatsoever to do with what happened two weeks ago.

But for the record, as I watched Friday's agonizing game, all I could think to myself was: why aren't we doing what they are doing?

There was a game where Josh Donaldson bunted a little while ago. Maybe some people thought it was beneath him. Personally, I loved it. If swinging for the fences hasn't work, maybe you should bunt. I know it's become a cliche to say so at this point, but how about some "little" ball? The Rangers did it brilliantly the whole time.

He trolls and it works. Rinse and repeat. Just ignore.

Being realistic and criticizing is trolling? Man some of you are mentally weak, cannot handle any criticism without throwing the troll label, over used word on this site. Being negative, bringing up valid criticism is not trolling. Attacking other members, baiting is which a lot of reg members do here.

FTL or MJ or whatever/whoever you are. "This team should be embarrassed" is a troll thread. Whats the point of it? Salt in wounds.

The team is upset with their play I'm sure. We are upset as fans and hoped for more. Some things went wrong. But it happens. Its playoff baseball. The best team doesn't always win a 3 of 5. If you are watching the other series its happening to other good teams as well.

Its your right to post it and my right to ignore it. Lets hope they win today. Go Jays!

OK, it's 5-1.

The entire bullpen had yesterday off to recover.

Price needs to pitch Game 5.

We've already screwed up Price's schedule once.

Any theories?

Well...I guess if Lowe got into trouble, you want that lefty to face Choo. Once he was up, you just go with him.

Not that I agree by any means.

These things called side sessions...

Gibby said Price was going to come in if things got a bit hairy.

Price should be good to go for tomorrow...but if not, Gibby said they can always use Stro tomorrow if need be then come back with Price in Game 5, if they get there.

Confirmed. Price was coming in if Loup didn't get Odor out. Price was also coming in if Sanchez let Alberto and DeShields on.

I'm new to the Forum and this is my first post. Been a Blue Jay fan since 1983. I have seen and heard many things, especially on ESPN, about how Gibbons made a mistake putting Price in Game 4 and how Price is going to remember that and be ticked off. I know it's easy to say now but even at the time in Game 4 up 7-1 I was 100% for bringing Price in at that point. The main reason being that Texas lit him up in this series and although he is a fabulous regular season pitcher he does not seem to be able to calm his nerves in post season. With that relief appearance he pitched 9 innings in the series and gave up 8 runs. Why on earth would you want that starting Game 5??

Sorry if his ego was bruised but given the stats and information, Gibbons did the perfect thing. Price was visibly nervous in Game 1 so imagine how shaky he would have been in Game 5. Plus, now you have given a bright, young pitcher (Stroman) the confidence for the next series and for his career that he in fact is a #1 pitcher.

Great job to Gibbons for knowing the right thing to do. Especially if Price isn't coming back next year anyway
