Ernie Clement putting up a .322/.391/.522 slash line for Buffalo so far this season with a stupidly insane 3.25 BB/K ratio being driven by a absurd 3.1% K rate. Would take him over Espinal in a heartbeat right now.

I was thinking of him yesterday too. 4 Ks in 130 PAs. Showing more power than he ever has before too. He’s played all over the diamond this year too. Could be worth a shot.

At this point it kind of just looks like insanely bad luck.

He has cut his K rate and improved his ISO. Regress the BABIP to even just .200 and he's an above average hitter.

The lowest BABIP in the modern era is Bill Plummer at .221. I can believe that Orelvis is an extreme case, but that list is littered with tubby catchers and noodle bat middle infielders. Nobody with his power or speed even has a career BABIP under .250.

Let's regress his BABIP to .221 just for an exercise. That's 9 extra hits and let's say 2 are doubles.

Now he has a .245/.298/.618 line and is an easy top 50 prospect.

I get it's not that simple, but his BABIP will not be that low for his career unless he makes the worst contact hitter in MLB history.

Yup, .200 ISO by far the best of his career. He's only 27 so he's actually younger than Espinal. Could be that he's made some tweaks and is breaking out....

Kloff whiffed 9 in 5 innings today. ERA down to a nice tidy 2.38

Danner whiffed 4 in 2 innings. Still rocking the 0.00 ERA in AA. Probably won't take much to see him move to AAA.

Kloff was carving them up with his breaking stuff

First seven Ks in that thread and then the last two below

Might be a chance they send Pearson back to AAA. I just don’t see them punting White a half year after trading a decent asset for him

That's the sunk cost fallacy though. We're trying to win this season.

It's his first year out of high school and he really hasn't pitched that much. Putting a little bit too much weight in his first 3 professional starts.

lol... no kidding.

I can see Kloffenstein being promoted to AAA really soon.

I wonder what changed for him in the off-season, he was very underwhelming these past few seasons after a really good high A debut.

Kloff's K and BB rates have always been borderline.

Like, he would pair a decent K rate with a bad BB rate. I dunno. I still don't trust this. He might just be getting lucky.

It will be interesting to see if he can make these results hold up over a larger sample, the stuff looks pretty legit.

Coming up on five years since we drafted him early as a tall, projectable HS arm, might stand to reason that he'd start coming into his own at 22/23

Is the velocity up?

Everything I had read in the last year or two indicated he had Chris Bassitt velo at best.

Sounds like still sitting in the low 90s and touching 95. Sort of odd because apparently he had ramped up into the high 90s during the covid year, but has never shown that velocity in game. The slider looks like it's becoming a legit out pitch though, which likely accounts for much of his success so far this season.

He may end up getting DFA'd. We can't possibly call him up at the end of his injury stint when he's getting shelled can we? He's not better than a single member of the 14 man staff.

Off-topic, Barriera'a results seem kind of average so far. He doesn't seem to have the helium that Tiedemann had. I heard their stuff was similar, so I wonder why?

Couple things

Similar stuff but

His fastball was actually better at a younger age topping out at 99. Haven't seen that yet as he is averaging 92-93 and topping out around 96. This could be due to many things. Maybe cause he stopped pitching his senior year and threw minimally in instructs. Then this seasonnhad shoulder soreness or something hold him back until the last few weeks

His slider apparently is great. But his changeup he only throws 1 or 2 times a game if that so far. So right now just a 2 pitch pitcher

Most of what shows as mediocre has been the result of 1 weird inning a game. In that inning he has lost command and had some weird stuff happen. Last night it was the first inning after a rain delay. Then the next two went pretty smooth and easy like the 1st inning.

I think this month is basically him getting back to throwing and June and later we start seeing some top notch games

Dude needs a curve or a change to be a starter, otherwise he'll be in the pen. I dont trust sinker/slider starters unless they have at least 1 other pitch offspeed pitch they can dump in there ~15% of the time.

From the Athletic.

Jim Bowden listing some prospects we don't know that we should know.

Kendry Rojas, LHP, Blue Jays

Age: 20

HT: 6-2 WT: 190

Scouting grades: FB: 50 SLI: 55 CH: 50 CTL: 50 CMND: 45

Stats (Low A): W-L: 1-0 ERA: 2.11 IP: 21 1/3 H: 15 BB: 7 SO: 27

Rojas’ fastball comfort zone is 90 to 93 mph with solid four-seam life that plays off his lower arm angle and is more effective on his glove side. His slider is his best secondary pitch. His changeup is average but needs to be softer to create more sink and separation in velocity from his fastball. His pitching frame is solid, and it’s easy to project a high ceiling for him as his fastball command and pitch mix continue to develop.

Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins: “He’s off to a nice start (this season) and the stuff has ticked up a bit.”

Is Jackson Holliday already the best prospect in baseball?

wRC+ of like 217 over 147 PA's in A/A+ as a 19 year old. More BB's than K's, ISO near .300 and 10 SB's in 32 games.

f***ing kid will be in the bigs next season. Book it. Unreal numbers from him right now.

Trout's 18 year old Numbers at High A: .306/.386/.434 with 27 walks, 33 Ks, 4 HR. OPS .821 over 232 PAs. 15 Total extra base hits

Holliday at 19 in high A: .388/.500.702 with 15 walks, 14 K, 3 HR. OPS is 1.202 over 82 PAs with 11 extra base hits.

Monster in the making.

The Orioles timed their scorched earth rebuild perfectly given how many elite prospects they were able to attain as a result.

Cowser, Westburg, Kjerstad, Joey Ortiz and Mayo are all cooking in the upper minors also. They are going to have a disgusting young lineup very, very soon.

Joey Ortiz was called up to the show this week. Rutschman, Hendersen, Rodriguez in the show, they're already good. :P

Yeah there's no way all those guys pan out anyways, even the Rays and Dodgers don't "hit" on every highly touted prospect

They'd probably be wise to package some of those guys and get some pitching that doesnt suck.

Trade them back Kevin Gaussman for top 4 Orioles non-Jackson Holliday prospects.

They will buy Giolito as a rental is my guess. Won’t cost them multiple of their top prospects.
