Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted May 21, 2022 Posted May 21, 2022 Speaking of promotions with Zulu/Tiedemann and Kloff/Palmer all moving up a level, Max Castillo was also promoted up to AAA. Kind of a forgotten arm but he started and won for the Bisons today. 7 IP 2 Hits 2 Walks 0 Earned runs 8 Ks Only 23 years old still.
Blazeit420 Verified Member Posted May 21, 2022 Posted May 21, 2022 Groshans off to a good start in Buffalo. .351/.435/.404, 10 BB, 5 K in 17 games Still hasn't flashed any power though.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted May 21, 2022 Posted May 21, 2022 Dahian Santos started in Dunedin today 5 IP 1 Hit 1 Walk 0 Runs 8 K's Rocking an 18.45 K/9 in A ball so far this season in 25 innings 19 years old

Tiedemann, Zulu, Frasso, Santos. Even Kloff and Robberse have taken big steps forward this year. Not to mentiom the lesser hyped guys like Juenger and Danner and Palmer. Gone are the days of hoping for Patrick Murphy and Joey Murray lmao. Gotta say the Shapiro regime finally seems to have figured out the developing pitching thing.

Blazeit420 Verified Member Posted May 21, 2022 Posted May 21, 2022 Oh well, could be worse I guess (e.g. Austin Martin).
vaff Verified Member Posted May 21, 2022 Posted May 21, 2022 The no power part is really unfortunate. Sometimes it takes a while for guys to develop their game power. Hopefully, it comes eventually.
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 21, 2022 Posted May 21, 2022 He has power. Not super worried about him being a slap hitter or anything.
WryNGinger Verified Member Posted May 21, 2022 Posted May 21, 2022 The progression of the Jays pitching prospects this season has been mind-blowing. Is this SSS or part of the new improvement in training facilities/metrics? I hate getting my hopes up on pitching prospects but I am starting to nibble on that damned hook again...

Nothing wrong to getting hooked to these kids.
Ray Verified Member Posted May 21, 2022 Posted May 21, 2022 Tiedemann so far... 4IP, 2H, 2R, 1ER, 2BB, 8K. FB95, T97 I was fortunate enough to see him in person today and he blew me away. I'm all in. He is a special talent. The noise the catchers mitt made when Tiedemmen was pitching vs. literally anybody else I saw was staggering. It's sounds like a bullet. He was consistently sitting 94-96 mph, touched 98 mph once. He was getting by mostly by his fastball. I counted like 20 swinging strikes at least. Smooth, easy delivery (a little violent arm whip, but he uses his lower half well to limit the stress on it). There's also a little deception mixed in with the cross-fire action. Hitters could barely make contact with his fastball tbh. They were having trouble just making contact. By the way, he should've had 10K because the ump robbed him of a clear strike, and got let down by some shoddy C's defense a couple times (which eleveated his pitch count). He was cruising, but reached his pitch limit around ~75 pitches. Crazy to think he's only 19 years old. Would not be surprised if he gets a taste of AA before end of the season, but no need to rush him.
Ray Verified Member Posted May 21, 2022 Posted May 21, 2022 Other notes: Impressed with Cameron Eden. He's got some real tools. Hit the ball hard a couple times and really has game changing speed. Semi-interesting. The stress and lack of success is getting to Miguel Hiraldo. Having a very rough season. 1st PA after he gets out, he slams his bat out of frustration. 2nd PA after he strikes out, he slams his bat down and then breaks it in half between the knees Vladdy style. Right after which he was pulled by the manager lol.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted May 21, 2022 Posted May 21, 2022 Moreno 2-2 today with a HR, single, BB. Now hitting .337 with a .842 OPS
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted May 21, 2022 Posted May 21, 2022 (edited) Another clean inning for Adrian Hernandez, 1K Still rocking the 0.00 ERA in AAA Pitched the 11th in a tie game and ended up getting the win, so handled the pressure too. Edited May 21, 2022 by Eat My Shatkins
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted May 21, 2022 Posted May 21, 2022 I see that Groshans was 1 for 2 with a walk in todays game and then was taken out. Hopefully not injured FFS

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted May 21, 2022 Posted May 21, 2022 Orelvis with homer number 12 today Looks like Kloff got touched up in his AA debut though.
John Balkabella Verified Member Posted May 22, 2022 Posted May 22, 2022 Orelvis’s last few taters haven’t exactly been wall scrapers. Or juuust over that short right field porch. Legitimate pop.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2022 Posted May 22, 2022 What's the record for most HR's in a minor league season? I googled it and came up with Joe Bauman hitting 72 home runs in 1954! And it said he never played a game in the majors - I looked it up and he hit .400 with 72 HRs - I'm like why the f*** wouldn't he get called up the majors...then I realized it was in some "C League" which is miles below A, AA and AAA I guess. Anyone know? 46 by Ryan Howard is the most I can find...

For something a little more "modern", Ron Kittle is the last player to hit 50 HR (1982 in AAA).
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted May 22, 2022 Posted May 22, 2022 Frasso on the bump today in Dunedin.
Drumcliff Verified Member Posted May 22, 2022 Posted May 22, 2022 Here are a couple. Ron Kittle, long-time White Sox 1B, hit 50 with Triple A Edmonton in 1982. Tony Solaita, who played briefly with the Expos in ‘79, had 49 with High A Carolina in 1968. Ken Phelps (Triple A, Expos system) and Dave Duncan (High A, Kansas City A’s) both had 46, the same number as Ryan Howard. What's the record for most HR's in a minor league season?
