So apparently Blue Jays prospect Manuel Beltre's little brother Enmanuel Beltre is considered by some people to be the best prospect in the world at his age. Kid is 12-13 years old and is already drawing some comparisons to Fernando Tatis Jr.

https://www.perfectgame.org/Players/Playerprofile.aspx?ID=691725

Here's the report from the Perfect Game link:

Enmanuel Beltre is a 2028 SS with a 5-3 110 lb. frame from Dominican Republic, SD who attends Dominican Republic. Smaller frame with a lean and an athletic build. Ran a 7.93 second 60-yard dash. Primary shortstop, works very athletically around the infield with good range to either side, stays balanced through the process and has soft hands that allows him to adjust on the move while throwing from multiple arm angles and maintaining accuracy across. Right-handed hitter, sets up slightly open and uses a simple trigger; shows fast hands and works to be explosive through impact. Able to use loft to get the ball in the air and ends the barrel at a very consistent rate. Very advanced player for the age with a good foundation. Named to 2021 13u Florida Showcase Top Prospect List.

Problem is, I don't think he's coming into the league through the international market. If he does, the Blue Jays should obviously have a massive advantage towards signing him, since they already made those connections to sign his older brother. But it also looks like he's currently playing stateside and if he enters the league through the draft (Jose Bautista style) then they don't really have any say in whether they can pick him up or not.

@Angrioter, do you have any info on this kid and what path he's going to take?

What are the financial advantages of both cases? I suspect that would be the deciding factor on which route Beltre will be taking.

Beltre’s family you mean.

Not necessarily a purely financial decision. Could be that they prefer him developing in the United States. Could be that they want him to get a proper high school education while he's working his way up. Could be any number of things.

If all they care about is money, they could secure a pretty decent bag in the IFA market and he'd get the money two years sooner.

Might even be an international draft before then

It would need to be added in this upcoming CBA. If Lil' Beltre was an IFA, he'd be eligible to sign in like 2025, he wouldn't be waiting till 2028.

I'm not even sure how all of this works. If a kid is an American school, can he even declare as an IFA?

No, but he can still live the DR and join US based travel teams for showcases and events. Pretty sure that’s what Manuel did.

And yes, they get money sooner from IFA, but a ton of that coin goes to the guy who runs his camp. It’s pretty disgusting how much those guys take of the kids bonuses.

Moreno 4 for 4 today, 1 walk, 1 sac fly, 3 runs, 2 RBI

I'm super excited about Moreno's imminent arrival. This kid feels like he's on par with Bo Bichette, and I think he's going to make a similarly loud debut in MLB this season.

sounds like he might be better than Bo believe it or not

Awesome.

Man I wish Moreno was a 3B. The timing would be perfect for him to come up next season and go all Bo Bichette on MLB.

Yup, seems that dream is not happening.

He’s mainly playing catcher in the AFL i guess?

Yep. Jays will have to move a catcher this off season you would think, if they plan on keeping Moreno there.

I also wonder Mcguire would make it through waivers again. I kind of doubt it.

They'll move him for a reliever, or a throw in in a trade to up the value.

Moreno through 5 games in the AFL: .474/.577/.789

Crazy start. I say just move him to 3B right now.

I agree. What did Bo produce in his first 120~ games in MLB? 4 WAR?

I could see Moreno coming up with 120~ games left next season and putting up 3-4 WAR at 3B

Maybe the Jays want to supervise his move to 3B and see how he looks there? He was originally a SS/2B so he should probably be athletic enough to play 3B. There would still be a learning curve for him. Might be one of those Spring Training experiments.

They'll trade him before they move him to 3B

Jansen is under team control for 3 more years. Kirk is 5 more years. McGuire is nothing but he is still pre arb as well. If they wanted to move Moreno off of catcher and into an IF position, this is the perfect time to do it because the team is covered at catcher for at least 3 years (Jansen) and up to 5 depending on how Kirk ages. I don't think they are moving him off CA, though. More likely they'll keep Moreno at CA, start the year with Jansen/McGuire, and trade Kirk somewhere for a need.
