Anybody else think Samad Taylor transformed himself into something legit after 62 games in AA?

It's a good step, but that K rate needs to come down for him to become a legit prospect I'd think

He probably falls as a utility guy like Espy. Plus runner and good defender at second but they have him playing all over right now. We are pretty jammed up the middle right now with Bo, Semien, Espinal, Biggio, Smith and Lopez in front of him.

I think it's fair to say he is legit prospect with some upside.

Taylor has legit 20-25 HR power with 30-40 SB ability. Espinal doesn't have those tools.

Maybe you are thinking of Otto Lopez in comparing to Espinal.

That still looks like a strong top 30 to me. Do they also update organizational rankings mid-season? Wonder where the farm ranks with the loss of Martin and SWR. Still top 5-10?

Definitely not top five. Not with Manoah and Kirk also losing eligibility very soon. Even if Pearson doesn't graduate by the end of the season (probably a safe bet that he won't throw 30 IP in relief), the Jays are probably on the lower end of the top 10 at best. But that's okay. Graduating players to your major league roster and making significant trades is the entire point of a farm system.

Austin Martin in his first game for AA Wichita:

1 for 3 ("soft line drive" for a single), HBP (he's been hit an absurd amount of times this year)

2 errors at SS (throwing, fielding)

Espinal has a much better glove than either of Lopez or Taylor. And Lopez has a better hit tool. Taylor probably has the best speed and power but is the least likely to stick in the big leagues because of hit/defense.

Blurb on Orelvis Martinez by Jeff Passan:

Eight minor leaguers you should know about

1. Orelvis Martinez, SS, Toronto Blue Jays: Everyone (during the trade deadline) was asking the Blue Jays for Martinez, and the conversations started and stopped there. His 19 home runs are the most of any teenager in organized baseball, and his 68 RBIs rank second in the minor leagues. In a loaded Blue Jays system, he might be the best of the bunch, though now comes another test: Toronto just promoted the 19-year-old to high-A.

Smith got pulled after one at bat today.

Anyone know what's up with that?

Hope they're finally bringing him up.

So don't trade him for Jose Ramirez?

I would not. We need to keep the guys we view as core prospects, or we could get old, expensive, and with a baron farm system real quick. If management thinks guys like Orelvis and Moreno are future stars, you gotta hold onto them, imo.

Kevin Smith, who is one of the best batters in Triple-A baseball right now, left Wednesday night’s game in the bottom of the 3rd. The shortstop attempted to make a play at second base but bobbled the ball and made the throw to first. Smith then collided with the runner heading to second and left the game shortly after.

Kiley McDaniel's Top 50: https://www.espn.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id/31958336/kiley-mcdaniel-midseason-top-50-mlb-prospects

Blue Jays have 4 in the Top 50, with 2 more in the honourable mentions.

12. Alek Manoah, RHP, Toronto Blue Jays

Manoah was another player like Alvarez for whom I just wanted to see a little more pro performance before I shot him up the list, and now he's a start away from losing his prospect eligibility with a 2.47 ERA in the majors and is only a little bit lucky.

22. Nate Pearson, RHP, Toronto Blue Jays

Pearson is right there with Hunter Greene for the best raw stuff among starters in the minors. Pearson has been just OK in the big leagues and slowed this year by a sports hernia.

36. Gabriel Moreno, C, Toronto Blue Jays

Moreno is a solid defender who is 21 years old and performing at a career-best level in Double-A this year, flashing above-average contact and power upside.

38. Orelvis Martinez, SS, Toronto Blue Jays

Martinez is a teenager who just got promoted to high-A and already has 20 homers this year, with easy plus raw power that's really showing up in games. He'll likely slide over to third base down the line. Contact is a bit of a question, but the bat speed is elite.

Honourable mentions:

Alejandro Kirk, C, Toronto Blue Jays

Jordan Groshans, SS, Toronto Blue Jays
