Benito Verified Member Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Sem Robberse also pitching well in that game. Looks like he really limits HRs, and overall numbers look promising. Plus he's young. How good a prospect is he?
Ray Verified Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Sem Robberse tonight: 7IP, 4H, 1ER, 1BB, 5K Kevin Smith between a double header: 4-for-6, 2 doubles, 1BB. Now slashing .302/.391/.611 in AAA.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Man, Kevin Smith needs to get a chance up with the big club.

How good a prospect is he? Ridiculously good vs his signing bonus but he probably needs to continue to add velocity to profile as a possibly decent MLB SP
Ray Verified Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Ridiculously good vs his signing bonus but he probably needs to continue to add velocity to profile as a possibly decent MLB SP He was sitting 91-93 in today’s outing, so he’s already made progress in that front. He was sitting 87-88 when he was first signed: https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/gamefeed?date=7/29/2021&gamePk=648824&chartType=pitch&legendType=pitchName&playerType=pitcher&inning=&count=&pitchHand=&batSide=&descFilter=&ptFilter=&resultFilter=&hf=pitchVelocity Andrew Tinnish went on record saying that Sem Robberse had one of the best deliveries he’s ever scouted in his career among amateurs. High praise. I’ve been excited for him ever since.
John Balkabella Verified Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Fun factoid re Kevin Smith. Over half his hits this year have gone for extra bases. 76 hits, 18 doubles, 3 triples, and 18 taters.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Author Posted July 30, 2021 Aside from his K #'s, Van Eyk really hasn't been good. Poor command and getting hit around.
Ray Verified Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Kevin Smith since June 1st: .331/.420/.657, 13.7 BB%, 20.7 K%, 178 wRC+ Video game numbers.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Author Posted July 30, 2021 So what's our new consensus top 10 with the departures of Martin and SWR? Based on Pipeline, Leo Jimenez and Estiven Machado move to 9 & 10.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Author Posted July 30, 2021 Manoah and Kirk are still prospects right Everyone categorizes differently. For me, as long as they haven't passed that rookie threshold (50IP for pitchers, 150ABs for position players) I consider them eligible in my own mind.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Based on Pipeline, Leo Jimenez and Estiven Machado move to 9 & 10. Smith should easily be in the top 10 with the massive showing in AAA.

Laika Community Moderator Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 The thing about prospects is you get new ones every summer. They are like vegetables.

Manoah and Kirk are still prospects right Hogland Van Eyk has struggled but he's probably at the tail end of that list. Maybe Otto Lopez? Probably Kevin Smith in the top 10 again. He's only 25 in AAA and dominating, so I'd say he's regained his prospect status.

Kloffenstein is likely in the mix, same with Otto Lopez. Patrick Murphy might be a thing again now that he has recovered from his old delivery literally being a balk every time
KevinGregg Verified Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 yeah, martin is a stud in the making. He's still no.1 jays' prospect for me. rip
Benito Verified Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 rip I don't know what this means. Yeah I was higher on Martin than most. So what?
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Probably something like this. Assuming Manoah and Kirk come off this list add Van Eyk and Pardinho. 1. Moreno 2. Pearson 3. Monoah 4. Kirk 5. Groshan 6. Martinez 7. Hoglund 8. Smith 9. Hiraldo 10. Lopez

Everyone above him can be impact guys as early as next season while he's 2+ years out barring exponential growth.

Ray Verified Member Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 I have a feeling the Jays value Otto Lopez higher than we realize. I was surprised when they protected him this offseason from the Rule 5. Didn’t think a guy who last played in A-ball would get claimed, but evidently they thought he would. Must’ve really liked what they say out of him from the alt-site.
