Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2021 Posted May 9, 2021 I've never heard of this guy... Signed out of Brazil and still only 18, might be an interesting arm. Can't seem to find any scouting reports, looks like he was just signed this past week.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2021 Posted May 9, 2021 We signed him back in IFA J2 2019, I remember Mike telling me about a Japanese / Brazil arm similar to Pardinho with less hype. https://www.radioscouts.com/international-free-agency-tracker-signings-and-bonuses/

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 10, 2021 Posted May 10, 2021 (edited) Two years too late, that's how soon. They can feel free to keep him down until after our 4 game series against the Rays next weekend... Edited May 10, 2021 by G-Snarls
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2021 Posted May 10, 2021 They can feel free to keep him down until after our 4 game series against the Rays Wander Franco - a legend for the people. A man who will bring joy to a generation. He will add 8.9 wins a year to the Rays win total starting in 10 days (these 8.9 wins will not be good for Jays fans). Unlike an ordinary prospect Wander is a super prospect There will not be a moment of doubt, just pure joy. There will never be a moment when Wander is only hitting .270 and seems behind his peers There will never be a moment when after a hot start Wander goes 2 weeks without a homer and goes 0 for 11 and seems to be hitting too many ground balls and fans feel a twinge of doubt again... For Wander is a legend, and will give fans joy forever without a moment of weakness.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2021 Posted May 10, 2021 Wander Franco His career average will never be below .320... he will go 1/1, 1/2, 1/3, 2/4. 2/5, 3/6. And so on At some moment perhaps he will be 16/50... but he will not go under .320. Legends are for the people, and legends don't disapoint. Wander Franco will never have early doubts, or late doubts. His 9 Rays years will be legend, beyond legend. Then the trade to the Red Sox will serve both sides. The Red Sox fans will get the legend they deserve, and after the Rays fans get 9 years of legend they will get 4 all star caliber players, none quite legends but enough to bring more joy. And Wander's red sox years will be legendary too... he will not in any way suffer the fate of Albert Pujols, but the Red Sox will guide him through his early 30s as Manny lived his early his 30s and his late 30s with the grace of David Ortiz..... The legend begins in 10 days... it ends in Glory at Fenway Park in 2044.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2021 Posted May 10, 2021 Wander Franco There is a young Rays fan, perhaps 5 years old, all he will ever know is Wander Franco... he will never know failure. His Dad will never punch a hole through the wall, or rant on a message board that Wander isn't performing, because Wander won't give that opportunity. A legend from Day 1 without any doubt. A fastball heading towards the top of his hand? Wander avoids it with casual grace, no one even notices the moment. Legend!
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 10, 2021 Posted May 10, 2021 His story has been written Praise be to you
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2021 Posted May 10, 2021 His story has been written Praise be to you Wander Franco will make outs half the time, maybe a bit over half, maybe 52% of the time. However there will be no pattern, no weakness, no shift that can contain him. He will hit ground balls to the short stop but not too many. He will hit pop-ups but rarely. He will just miss a pitch and hit it 98 mph to the warning track. Mike Trout has struck out 180 times in a year (2014). That's might be OK for Mike Trout but not for Wander. Wander will be on base 48% of the time, a good portion of the other 52% will be web gems, lots of web gems. He'll make everyone else better.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2021 Posted May 10, 2021 The major league average is in the low .230s and trending downwards. The trend ends in 10 days. Wander by himself will raise the MLB average a couple of points, but more than that he'll demand others do better, not only his team mates but everyone.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2021 Posted May 10, 2021 On the latest prospect hot sheet. Rafael Ohashi, RHP, Blue Jays At just 18 years old, Ohashi is the second-youngest player in the Low-A Southeast League, just behind Jupiter’s Eury Perez. He made his pro debut on Sunday and was mighty impressive. Working against Tampa, which had scored 77 runs in its previous five games, and pitching with an automated strike zone that so far has led to skyrocketing walk totals in the league, Ohashi spun three perfect innings with four strikeouts. His fastball sat in the low 90s, and was accentuated by the roughly 7.5 feet of extension in his delivery. He paired the heater with a curveball and a splitter. Ohashi impressed Blue Jays officials with a combination of skills and makeup—he emerged from the pandemic in excellent shape—and the team rewarded him with a stateside debut.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2021 Posted May 10, 2021 ...pitching with an automated strike zone...
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2021 Posted May 11, 2021 Corbin Carroll getting a lot of helium lately, kid is on fire going back to the alternate site last summer.
Ryu In My House Verified Member Posted May 11, 2021 Posted May 11, 2021 On the latest prospect hot sheet. That seems crazy good for an 18-year old. He is already better than Big Diesel.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2021 Posted May 11, 2021 That seems crazy good for an 18-year old. He is already better than Big Diesel. If he becomes '13 - '19 Big Diesel, that'd be sweet! '20 - '21... not so much!
Ray Verified Member Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 Gabby Moreno's supherhuman run at AA continues. 2-for-3 with a homer, driven in 4. Still only the 7th inning
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 Man we need Jansen to get his s*** together at the plate so the Jays can get something for him before they have to DFA him. He'd already be the back up if Kirk hadn't gotten hurt, and when Moreno arrives that's it for him completely.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2021 Author Posted May 12, 2021 I don't think I've ever seen pitching quite as bad as what we've seen from Dunedin this first week of the season
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 Gabriel Moreno has been exceptional, would be really surprised if he doesn’t make the midseason top 100.
Ray Verified Member Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 Gabriel Moreno has been exceptional, would be really surprised if he doesn’t make the midseason top 100. He’s already 93 on the Fangraphs. I predicted he’d be Top 50 before end of the season. Just think he’s going to continue to tear up AA. He apparently had some of the best exit velos in the alt site last year. Combine that with his affinity to rarely strikeout and I think we’ve gotten a really special offensive prospect.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted May 13, 2021 Posted May 13, 2021 Alek Manoah suxxxxx He's only got 4 K's thru 4 innings today. Also 0 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, 1 hit batter and just 46 pitches (30 strikes). Bust. I expect double digit K/9 numbers or they might as well send him back to A ball.
Ray Verified Member Posted May 13, 2021 Posted May 13, 2021 Yeah, so Gabriel Moreno is 3-for-3 tonight. Now hitting an even .500 for the season. Just turned 21 years old by the way
Johnny King Vancouver Canadians - A+ LHP The 19-year-old top prospect has made 16 High-A starts. He is 3-2 with a 2.92 ERA. In 61 2/3 innings, he's walked 35, but he's struck out 83 batters. Explore Johnny King News >
