Cool, is that you in the back with shades on head? I know you're in Manitoba, or is it Saskatchewan? God bless lad.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2019 Posted May 6, 2019 It's supposedly his footwork. He puts himself in bad throwing positions. I won't say it's to his left or to his right he does really poorly cause I honestly can't remember. I know listening to a scout is poor form around here...but this was a scout in his 20's so maybe that is acceptable. Regardless if the bat continues it won't matter where he ends up. For now he's a 2b though, and supposedly 3B is just not an option. They were also saying Bo can't/won't stick at SS and needs to play 2b.. From what I saw (SSS) he looks like a pretty damn good SS... I also think the Blue Jays plan on playing him at SS when he hits the majors barring anything drastic happening from here until when he gets called up..

The reports on Bo's defense at SS have been pretty reassuring in the past year+. Seems like he should be at least able to provide average defense.

I should add that I'm not hearing it from a random scout. I'm hearing it from a Blue Jays Scout. It's a huge difference when someone who actually has an input with the GM says it in comparison to Baseball America. Again it was September last year. Things change. Biggio's batting approach has, so his defense could as well. I don't want to seem so down on Biggio cause I'm not.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 (edited) I think they do view Biggio as Mark Reynolds. I think he will be traded mid season before he ever gets called up. Edited May 7, 2019 by saskjayfan

Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 I think they do view Biggio as Mark Reynolds. I think he will be traded mid season before he ever gets called up. That would be an unusual trade. I can't think of many cases where a non-contender trades one of their better prospects mid season... I'd have to think at this point with questions surrounding Gurriel at second, and questions surrounding the two corner outfielders, and Biggio's approach looking for good in aaa, he's the leading contender to fill one of those positions long term.
Ray Verified Member Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 Former Jay Edward Olivares (traded for Yangervis Solarte to the Padres) hit 3 home runs yesterday in AA. He'd be nice to have in the pipeline right now.

Especially...if it's some nonsense quick fix deal like Solarte was.

Especially...if it's some nonsense quick fix deal like Solarte was. I thought Solarte was a bet that bust but had some logic behind it. They thought he had a great contract, could help now and because of the contract could be traded later for more than Olivares if he performed as expected. They lost all ways but I think it was a decent idea. I do remember being surprised it was Olivares because I saw somewhere that he was listed as a potential riser on the jays system.

We'll have to see. I remember he was pretty streaky when he was with us too. Also more former Jays news, Harold Ramirez is slashing .356/.414 /.584 in the Marlins AAA system.

I thought I read the Jays offered Ramirez the best deal but he chose the Marlins cause he thought he would have a better opportunity.

We did, and I can't really blame him for that. Although at this point, he probably would've been in line for a call up from us sooner rather than later.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 I thought I read the Jays offered Ramirez the best deal but he chose the Marlins cause he thought he would have a better opportunity. Dumb choice. He's blocked by Garrett Cooper.
Ray Verified Member Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 (edited) Nate Pearson will make his 1st start in AA today. Also, Jordan Groshans has been promoted to a Top 100 prospect on MLB Pipeline. Edited May 7, 2019 by Ray

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 Nice AA debut so far. I thought there was zero chance we'd see him in the majors this year... Because of the aggressive promotion to AA (and SSS looks fantastic) I think there's an outside chance of a September callup.

BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 He generated a lot of whiffs on that heater last night, but I was surprised how often he mixed in sliders for strikes. He’s pitching strictly from the stretch since the end of AFL and apparently it’s given him better command. He used like 1 curveball and 3-5 changeups in that 72 pitches, the rest were 97-100mph fastballs and sliders. Triple digit heaters, paired with an 87mph slider, then an offspeed pitch mixed in with 78mph hook. Doing it with no windup. I’m not sure what batters are supposed to do about that. Should’ve been a 5IP 1 hitter but Kevin Smith derped on a catch that should’ve been made.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 Should’ve been a 5IP 1 hitter but Kevin Smith derped on a catch that should’ve been made. Kevin Smith's entire season has been a derp.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 (edited) Ben Badler MLB Prospects Chat (5/8/19) Lots of Blue Jays prospects related topics here Scott (Toronto): With Nate Pearson's successful Double-A debut, do you think he could reach the big leagues this season? How far up the mid season rankings could he end up? Ben Badler: We have Sixto Sanchez at No. 17 on our Top 100… I think you could make a compelling case for Pearson to be in that same tier. If the Blue Jays were a contender this year, I think he would be up this summer, but I think they play it more conservatively with him. Joe W (NYC): Prior years we had guys like Soto, Tatis and Robles absolutely sky rocket up the rankings. Can you identify any young studs that fantasy baseball guys like myself should run and add to our teams before it is to late? Ben Badler: Jordan Groshans and Vidal Brujan are two big arrow-up guys I love. mjk (wyckoff,nj): hi ben...given that Kelenic has been on a number of prospect hot sheets, wondering why he dropped in the top 100? Is it a matter of getting passed by others? Mind you as a Mets fan I am certain he will be an All Star for years. Thanks Ben Badler: This is a fair question/critique. I think we need to do a better job of the way we present our Top 100 to convey player movement and true stock changes within our Top 100. We were extremely high on Kelenic coming into the year, and, at least as of right now, we're saying that his value is at about the same level he was a month ago (although if he keeps hitting like this, he's going to climb higher). The reason his ranking in the Top 100 moved down five spots was because players like Groshans, Hoerner, Pearson, May, and Robert made large leaps up in their stock. So while Kelenic's value isn't going down, we have a big red arrow pointing down next to his name, which I don't think is a proper representation of what's happening with his value, and that's on us to do a better job of showing that. Scott (Toronto): Has Cavan Biggio's hot start increased his ceiling? Do you think he is more likely to end up in the outfield given the Jays glut of infielders? Ben Badler: I think it's more that he's increasing the probability of him reaching upside rather than his ceiling itself changing. He's getting to hit the PCL Titleists, but he had above-average power last year too and the plate patience has always been there. If the lowered strikeout rate is something he can maintain, he can be an everyday guy, one who might move around the field rather than have one true position. Tom (MA): Can Alejandro Kirk stick at C? It looks like he has lost a significant amount of weight, and he's been quickly moving up the ranks after a bunch of lost development time. Ben Badler: Defense is still the big question with him, but this dude can hit, and I'm following Josh Norris on to the Alejandro Kirk bandwagon here. Frederick (Boston): What was the reason for Eric Pardinho falling nearly 20 spots? Ben Badler: Elbow injury. Moe (Chicago): Obligatory Vladdy Jr. question: do the Jays stick with him and hope he figures it out or send him back to AAA to make adjustments? Small sample size, I know. Ben Badler: He's there to stay. Edited May 8, 2019 by BlueRocky
