AledmysDiaz Verified Member Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 The syndergaard trade is so catastrophic to the franchise, that all the other busts pails in comparison. Dont know why AA thought he was going to win the championship with the Roster he had assembled,
King Old-Timey Member Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 He has Willie Calhoun as an average bat (55 hit, 50 power) with no or negative defensive value. This is not an MLB player at DH. Matt Chapman is regarded as an elite defensive 3B with big time power yet he only gets an honourable mention. Epic Fail from fangraphs here. So many prospect websites missed on Chapman even though his talent was slapping everyone in the face. 4 fWAR in 488 PA
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 I think you guys are missing the boat here. None of those players are stars but 1-2 win players on cheap contracts are assets. Probably could have helped knowing how god awful Anthopoulous was at filling out the backend of rosters. I some cases yes But I'd still rather be paying Russel Martin 15M than have D'Arnaud at league min and needing two other guys to back him up

Yes I realize we probably don't sign Martin with d'Arnaud Guys like Luke Maile, Salty, Miguel Montero, Navarro, Josh Thole combined for tons of negative fWAR between the past 3 or 4 seasons

Probably could have helped knowing how god awful Anthopoulous was at filling out the backend of rosters. And the knowledge that he chose JPA as the catcher. And fought to keep Sanchez out of the deal but moved Thor It's a such a poor narrative that no one he traded did anything. Only Thor became a star. In total Donaldson provided so much excess value that it makes up for the rest (and Reyes, Happ also put up some positive value) Musgrove 1.9 fWAR still hasn't hit arbitration Disco 5.1 fWAR but lost to injury now. Hendo Alvarez 4.1 fWAR trying to make a comeback from injury now. Marisnick 3.7 fWAR first year of arbitration Yunel 8.1 fWAR and $63M in excess value

Marisnick 3.7 fWAR first year of arbitration Yunel 8.1 fWAR and $63M in excess value There was definitely some value that wound up going the other way in those deals although it's interesting that out of all those guys, besides Syndergaard, Yunel provided the most value. Most of the other guys providing value are back end pitchers. I think Henderson Alvarez' career as an MLB pitcher is likely over. It's been three years, which is a pity because I liked him a lot. Also I just looked Marisnick's stats this year. He has somehow managed to strike out in 47% of his AB's.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 4\5 with 3 HR for Austin Riley today in AAA. Just promoted to AAA last week. 21 yrs old. Braves / Spooge / Jets 3B of the future (like, next month)

Maybe, but there's also the possibility he learned something from the debacle he put the Jays in and won't repeat it
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 Wow, Juan Soto batting .143 in AA. What a f***ing bust!

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 I was scrolling through Fangraphs leaderboards to see if I could find the last teenager before Vlad who combined a sub-10% K rate with a .200+ ISO in AA, but I gave up and I'm pretty sure it hasn't happened in decades, if ever.

Jason Heyward did it on his way through 3 levels in 2009 Jesus Montero was damn close in the same year (11.6% K) You might as well say OT (RIP) did it in 2012 - full season, 10.5% w a .252 ISO Not exactly the best company. Mental midget, bust, dead.

I love the braves farm system, although AA will probably decimate it in the near future. I hate this narrative. AA built - and then decimate the farm...there's no doubt. We really have no good understanding as to why he did that. It may have been his decision to do it to make a push before Jose and EE declined. He may have been told he's to "go for it" by Beeston or he'd lose his job. Either way, it's not he's got some Dusty Baker track record behind him. There's nothing to suggest "he's probably going to decimate their farm system in the future".

I think when he added Price and Tulo in 2015 it was simply because he thought that team could win the World Series that year. And he wasn't wrong. That team was beastly, the best we've put on the field since 93. It came down to our 1-2 hitters not getting it done in the top of the 9th in Game 6. Should have scored and didn't. The start of this was the Marlins deal and who knows why that happened when it did. Has he ever explained the timing?

Yep, get excited. Only the first two of those things are relevant. We have no idea how good (or how bad) his defense is, going off of dumn scouts who've seen him twice and basing their opinion on maybe three fielded balls tells us nothing. Prospect pedigree is stupid, where was Freddy Peralta's prospect pedigree? Rhys Hoskins'?
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 He also has a prospect pedigree. He was ranked in the top ~160 by people before the draft and got a $300k bonus... 23 isn’t that old for starting a year in AA Who cares about a 25% k rare in 2018... Yawn
