Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 We got beach property approx 10kms west of Dunnville.....south of Lakeshore Rd, east of Haldeman-Dunnville Townline Rd. Hoping to build a new house there late summer and retire! Excellent! I've looked at the same area, prices are relatively good compared to other lakefront in the province.......
Stoneyen Verified Member Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 He really needs a promotion. It's almost to the point where it doesn't really matter how he does in Lansing. I'm way more interested in how he and Bo fare against better pitching.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 What is Jansen like Behind the plate defensively
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 What is Jansen like Behind the plate defensively I don't know if there's a detailed scouting report out to the public. I've never read anything bad about his defense. I've also never read anything particularly glowing. He's probably average-ish. There doesn't seem to be any concern that he can't catch.

Danny Jansen: Blue Jays Catcher of the Future "And lest you think Jansen is a bat-first player, it's his skills behind the plate that have won him accolades at every stop in his career. The 6'3"/225 Jansen presents a big target for pitchers, but he covers the lower half of the strike zone extremely well, which is important for hurlers who rely on the two-seamer that he has caught like Sean Reid-Foley, Conner Greene, and TJ Zeuch. Jansen is a superior blocker of balls in the dirt, and he has long been an excellent framer of pitches. His ability to work with pitchers and his leadership skills have also been lauded for some time now. Jansen has a strong, accurate arm - his infielders have to be on their toes when a runner attempts to steal, because Jansen's throw will arrive in a hurry and on the spot. " Sounds promising.

Hard to place much value on off-the-cuff blog blurbs. I would assume that the author has talked to people (scouts, org people) about Jansen but you never know.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 Probably an org guy/journeyman/D-first backup/2nd division regular.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 He really needs a promotion. I could understand it if he was in Dunedin and they wanted him working closely with the guys stationed down there...but it's Lansing. Regardless I want him down there long enough for when I get free time and can get to a Lansing game.

I just think if a teenager is mashing that league to this extent for 1/3 of a season, he needs a new challenge. Let him take his cuts in the FSL and maybe get his first taste of failure in an extremely pitcher-friendly league.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 Although TBH, they could probably skip him right to AA. They won't, but they could. He's a prodigy.

I would assume that the author has talked to people (scouts, org people) about Jansen but you never know. He has a Minor League blogger Facebook group which I am part of. He at least claims to speak to people in the org every time he takes a trip. He has on-field access for the Lansing home games so I assume his connection to the org is through Lansing. He seems to be much more old school though and tends not to write negative things ever.

The Cubs try to keep their best prospects together, I suppose that is a possibility as well. Maybe after all the Rehab assignments are done in Florida we'll see a jump.

Not that I could participate but I'm surprised that a board trip to Lansing isn't a thing that is happening. This would be such a great time to see that team.

Kitchener...London area?...(either Lansing or New Hampshire?) I also think it would be cool to have special weekend in Toronto to have doubleheaders on Friday, Sat and Sunday of one of the minor league teams before the Jays game.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 From the Fringe 5 discussion on fangraphs today... a commentor brought up Danny Jansen for inclusion. Cistulli replied Damaso C D.Jansen (22, AA), spent his career at age appropriate levels so far, though his last two years have been savaged by injuries. Gets good marks for his gamecalling and receiving. MILB Career: 882pa, 10.3bb%, 12.7k%, .285babip, 117wrc+ 2017 (A+/AA): 161pa, 6.2bb%, 9.9k%, .398babip, 184wrc+ 1 REPLY1 hour 3 minutes ago Carson Cistulli Member Carson Cistulli Because catchers don’t move gracefully down the defensive spectrum, but rather tend to plummet all the way to first base, I’ve become progressively more cautious about including them here unless their defensive reputations are beyond reproach. Eric Longenhagen’s assessment of Jansen’s catching skills — or, perhaps, the assessment that he’s relayed from scouts — suggests to me that Jansen’s defense might merit a little bit of reproach. I agree, though, that the offensive skills are promising, and I’m constantly willing to consider new information.

Yes we have the dome. Baltimore, NY and Boston certainly don't. My guess is he hasn't played many games in his life at 5-10 degrees celsius.

I'd give him a 70 grade for intangibles, he's clearly a plus teammate.
