Future corner OF

I just hope he has some kind of future. Our first round track record is garbage. I'm not including the compensation rounds ofcourse.

Jays last decade of "first" first round draft picks:

2016 T.J. Zeuch

2015 Jon Harris

2014 Jeff Hoffman

2013 Phil Bickford

2012 D.J. Davis

2011 Tyler Beede

2010 Deck McGuire

2009 Chad Jenkins

2008 David Cooper

2007 Kevin Ahrens

2006 Travis Snider

2005 Ricky Romero

Jonn's comment excludes "later" supplemental 1st round picks Stroman, Sanchez, Arencibia and Pentecost, although Pentecost and Stroman were supplemental for failing to sign Beede and Bickford

Our best first round pick in the last 15 years is Aaron Hill. After that you would have to go back to 97 and 99 when we took Vernon Wells and Alex Rios.

If you include compensation Syndergaard he's obviously the best in the past 20 years. If his elbow doesn't explode.

Such a crapshoot most years

In 1995 they did OK :)

(only 1 great player came out of the entire first round and we got him at #17)

Had a scroll through. Helton and some interesting names. Geoff Jenkins is little league coach for my buddy's kid who is 8. They live in Phoenix, AZ. Pretty cool to have coach with 200 mlb hrs as your coach.

Hey Todd I think

you make a decent point.

However, you are speaking

about the past. The trade

deadline has now passed

and it is unlikely that any

top prospects are moved

for the rest of the season.

Why don't we focus on the

team now, the players that

we have under contract

for the rest of the season

and enjoy the playoff run

that we hope to make. We

have a fantastic team, please

try your best to enjoy it!

I have been a blue jay fan forever. However

i want the blue jays to have a playoff

run like the yankees or the braves did.

Which needs to have a good future of young

prospects. And not end up like the yankees or braves

are now.

Building for sustained success sounds like a plan to me

Vlad Jr. who hit his 5th homerun today has 14 stolen bases this year in 42 games and has only been caught twice. MLB.com has him rated at 35 speed. Anthony Alford in almost twice as many AB's has 14 SB's. Alford's speed is rated at 70 on MLB.com. Also in terms of the argument that Alford has been banged up, DJ Davis has a lower SB/AB ratio than Vlad Jr.

He may be an excellent base runner?

That's going to be quite a chore with the roster the Jays have now. The farm will organically get better as players move up, but it probably won't be in time to take advantage of the Donaldson years. They'll have to really make some killer off-season moves to win in 2017 without JB, EE, and MS.

Catchers in that league aren't very good. I wouldn't read much into stolen base numbers until a player gets to Dunedin or maybe Lansing.

We should have at least 30 million to spend on offense during the offseason so that should help.

The Yankees have a top 3 farm system right now.

Does that matter?

No, but all they did is trade a couple players to stock the farm. Their farm wasn't very good for the longest time. It's not like they've had some stocked farm system for some time, which is what he was refering to.

They did a great job of selling though, sold from a position of strength into a premium market to maximize their return. They could've rebuilded like the Reds did, which is a piss-poor excuse for a rebuild for what they did.
