Former MWL MVP Ryan McBroom making his AA debut tonight. He's not at the same level as Tellez but I still think he could be a solid major leaguer.

Anthony Alford has been turning things around a bit. 106 wRC+ in July so far. Still not very good but at least it's a step in the right direction during his nightmare season.

I still hope it's injury bias, on my part.

So what do we make of Maese's start today?

5IP, 10H, 1R, 1BB, 2K

Bad luck? Or too much pitch to contact?

Must be a fan of Stroman?

Lots of grounders getting through I would guess, nothing to worry about. Infield D can be pretty sketchy at that level, so just focus on K/BB and GB% for now.

Something about that Maese pick always seemed so corny to me.

Why? He has an above average, good draft age, good control, reports show improvement. He may not have the big body or big strikeout pitch but he looks good so far.

He's good. Just doesn't have a big strikeout pitch yet. Still young I'm not too worried.

If he never does develop an effective swing and miss pitch his sinker will play up well in the bullpen. That pitch will take him a long way.

Hard to put a lot if stock in hits given up in the low minors unless it's very consistent from start to start.

Defense is shaky all over the diamond down there. He needs to develop a consistent swing and miss offering though

Pentecost with his 7th HR, also had a double today.

He is having a very good return from injury but he really needs to get behind the plate ASAP.

That's not really fair though, the MLB draft is a crapshoot.

I was banging the drum for Turner. Thought he was obviously the superior prospect. Having him right now could really help us land a significant piece at the deadline...

Yeah I was Pentecost/Hoffman all the way and I am less than pleased

Pentecost was injured, therefore any comparison is completely pointless and literally stupid. He's had horrible injury luck, it happens. There are quite a few notable draft analysts who really liked Pentecost, his prospect status has been hurt by injuries and injuries alone.

Couple good outings from Jays pitchers today, Conner Greene and Wilfri Aleton. Greene pitched all 7 innings for the first half of the Fisher Cats doubleheader and picked up the complete game shutout. His final line was 7IP 4H 2BB 7K with a GB/FB ratio of 7-1.

Meanwhile "Big Wilf" finished with a line of 6IP 4H 1BB 7K and a GB/FB ratio of 7-2. He's pitched very well recently and dropped his season ERA to 1.69. My guess would be most of the call-ups and roster shuffling would occur after the NWL All-Star Game on August 2nd which is effectively the end of the first half for short-season ball.

Greene is good again thanks to his pitching coach from Lansing who is now in New Hampshire

Per Baseball America MiLB Transactions - we took Scott Copeland back, after he has apparently returned from Korea. He was a disaster there with more walks than strikeouts (42 walks to 34 strikeouts in 64 innings).

Toronto Blue Jays

Signed: RHP Scott Copeland (LG Twins (Korea))

Optioned to Triple-A: LHP Aaron Loup, 3B Andy Burns

Designated for assignment: RHP Dustin Antolin

Placed on 7-day DL: RHP Carlos Ramirez, RHP Jordan Romano, C Seth Conner, 1B Rowdy Tellez, OF Austin Davis, OF Edward Olivares

Double-A New Hampshire first baseman Rowdy Tellez injured his hand in a collision at first base and left a game last week, though a quick return is expected.

Hansel Rodriguez, player the Blue Jays traded for Upton, will face the @vancanadians on Saturday night at The Nat. Tickets at 604.872.5232

Kinda funny how this works out.

The young man is back

The last few weeks, he has been playing like the Alford of last season. Hopefully he can have a strong finish to the season. I still feel his poor season is because of the injuries he has had. Anyone know if he is still playing with a brace?
