Followthelight Verified Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Make no mistake, the Rangers are a hot right now. Key players are performing well. And with the additions of Hamels and Holland (back from injury) they've gotten a boost on pitching. Beltre has an OPS of .957 in Sept/Oct Shoo has an OPS of 1.113 in Sept/Oct And none of their other regulars are really struggling, so what you have is a team firing on all cylinders. Expect some serious competition in this series, hopefully the Jays are ready-to-go out of the gates. Ultimately, I like our chances for two reasons: the Jays mash lefties and home field advantage. The Rangers could cause the Jays some problems...not an easy series by any means, but you have to beat the best to be the best.

Pitching is still not great though. Certainly not good enough to silence the Jays bats. Hamels had no doubt provided a boost but he's less than vintage Hamels and Holland has been flat out bad.
Governator Community Moderator Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Just bought tickets. So. f***ing. Excited. What's your excuse letter to the Principal?
Followthelight Verified Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Truthfully, I'm just worried about Gallardo doing what he's always done to the Jays: shut them down. And if the Rangers scrape a couple runs off Price, being down 0-1 in a 5 game series is not easy. In 176 PA's the Jays have only 4 HR vs Gallardo - 3 from Edwin. They have to solve him, that's all their is to it, if they don't going to be a tough first series. After saying that he was hit a bit hard last time and got lucky the first few innings. Jays have to wait for their pitch, he gets them chasing the soft stuff. Soft stuff seems to give the Jays problems.

dineke Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 At least they're not losing against the Yankees or Royals.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 1 down with 4 to play. Discuss! ban
North of 60 Verified Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Jays win in 5, only if they win tomorrow. Can't see them sweeping the Rangers in Texas.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 I was hoping to only have to worry about getting drunk on my birthday and now I might have to watch a win or go home game 5 and get drunk. GO JAYS!!!
Effit Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 You two both zip it They're enjoying this, aren't they. lol

nextyear Verified Member Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Can the Rangers turn their upset win into a series win; very unlikely since the Blue Jays are by far the best team.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 ban Now hasn't 4 of the 5 "Can they catch..." threads turned out in the Jays favour. I try to do my part around here and get ripped for it. No respect at all.

nmrch Verified Member Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 It was 60-40 Toronto before today, now probably 65 - 35 Rangers. So we're underdogs but not overwhelmingly so.
starfield Verified Member Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Man, tomorrow is so big. No way we come back from 2-0 deficit
WillyWonka Verified Member Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 The question is not can the Jays catch the Rangers, but can the Rangers hold off the Jays.
mellowgold Verified Member Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Serious question: If Stroman dominates tomorrow and this series goes the distance, who pitches game 5? Price on five days rest or Stroman on regular rest? I would probably have to give the ball to Marcus. Price has been very average over his last three starts and Stroman just seems to be getting better and better.

Zero chance of someone else starting barring an injury. We didn't pay top price for a rental to not use him in a series clinching game.

You live or die with the ace we rented. There is no other choice.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Yup. You live or die with the ace we rented. There is no other choice. Plus, he's a bonafide ace. You don't sour on him after one mediocre start. That's how jobs are lost.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Man, tomorrow is so big. No way we come back from 2-0 deficit False, it's obviously much harder but this team can certainly come back from a 2-0 deficit. Stranger things have happened.
