LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Great...news? Even if he wasn't "fine" they wouldn't be announcing that to the world in the "news". The reality here is nobody here knows if he is or isn't fine. We wont know. Lets just hope this is rest as many say. what? its a tweet about his status. If he's pitching tomorrow in a sim game he is obviously fine. If he had any time of nagging injury they would risk doing more damage to it right before game 1 of the postseason. Man people get way too worked up over nothing
Followthelight Verified Member Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Zaun didn't say that Price was injured. He said that he didn't understand the move, and then laid out a few of the possibilities that could explain it. One was that there was a slight injury, one was that Price would pitch to Tulo in a simulated game (which appears to be the case) instead. That's a pretty important distinction, peeps over reacting.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Has price ever been injured ever?/

They wouldn't say otherwise at this point. You are probably right. I hope so. I'm not worked up at all.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 We already have home field advantage locked up for the ALDS and WS. One additional home game in the ALCS, and only if we play KC... that's all that's at stake here. Technically, this is true. However, the big factor you're missing is 1st in the AL plays the winner of the wild card, instead of playing Texas. I think that's a HUGE difference.

I don't think its huge, but I do agree it is a noteworthy factor.

For some reason the Yankees make me nervous.

We gotta play em both to get to the world series anyways

What makes it a big deal is that wild card winner likely doesn't have their #1 pitcher available until game 3.

Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 All we need is the Astros to beat the Yanks. Then all is well in this world.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 What makes it a big deal is that wild card winner likely doesn't have their #1 pitcher available until game 3. Exactly. Another factor is the ALDS is only a 5 game series. An inferior team is more likely to get lucky and win in a 5 game series than they are in a 7 game series. I'll take the WC team without their ace until Game 3 in the ALDS everyday of the week.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 in the 3 years of the 2 wildcard teams...the WC winner is 3-3 in the DS. Of the 3 losers 2 went to 5 games (and lost in pitching duels), TB lost in 4. There is no real data that says it's a huge advantage to play the WC winner.

SSS Home field advantage is a real thing, most teams have a significantly better record at home. Ergo, it is an advantage to face the wild card team, as you would hold home field advantage in every case.

The NL wildcard winners are probably going to have better records than the other 2 division champs Do the division champs with worse records still get home field advantage over the WC teams under this current structure?

They are playing the 1st place team regardless, so it's the Cards vs. 2nd or 3rd best records in baseball. That should be enough to change the format for next year.

It would be a gross overreaction to change the format based on this year.

That should be enough to change the format for next year. ...who also racked up a ton of wins playing the worst teams in baseball. So no changing of format necessary. The AL had Oakland and no one else that was terrible. The NL will have six 90+ loss teams, including two in the NL Central. The AL destroyed the NL even more than usual in interleague play this year. The Jays' 92 wins is more of an accomplishment than the Cardinals' 100 wins even without considering the run differential. Rather than implying that the Cubs or Pirates are getting screwed over, we can say the only team that got lucky this year was the Mets and their 46-26 record against their horrible division opponents. Don't worry though, any Raptors fans will know teams that benefit from being in a weak division get bounced quickly anyways.
