Caper Verified Member Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 ^ This. I love Mark B but he is useful as a SP or not at all. And Im sad to say he cant make this playoff rotation. Really? How did you arrive at that conclusion?
nextyear Verified Member Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 A typical Loup outing Walk Bloop single Strikeout Another bloop single #blowsgame but fip is good Unfortunately, it seems to be true. Even when he seems to have good stuff, he somehow gets into a mess.

Maahfaace Verified Member Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Don't forget, Buehrle coming out of the pen and his uptick in velocity of 3 to 4 MPH. Man will be throwing gas touching 88 on occasion. Flamethrower lefty? Sign me up!

From the story: ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A knock on the door came midway through John Gibbons’ daily pre-game session with beat writers Friday afternoon, with the manager immediately inviting the visitor into his office. David Price opened the door, leaned on it as Josh Thole peaked in behind him, and made a pronouncement. “I need Thole behind the dish,” demanded Price. “He got me locked in today.” “I didn’t even lobby for him to do this,” said Thole. “They said it was a perfect game you threw,” replied Gibbons. “I need Thole, alright?” implored Price. “I need John Thole. Thanks.” “Hey, hey, hey,” countered Gibbons. “I’m not quite sure if he’ll be active for the playoff roster.” Price though, wasn’t having it: “There are loopholes.”

nextyear Verified Member Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Where does this imply he was kidding? Must have missed it It seems obvious considering it was just a two inning simulated game for Tulowitzki that Thole caught for Price and if you read the rest of the story - http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/blue-jays-price-not-worried-about-lengthy-layoff/

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 f***. ??? Those are one very good pitcher (Hamels) and two decent ones, not exactly threatening to this lineup. Two of them also happen to be left-handed, and we all know what this lineup is capable of against LHP.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 Pompey NEEDS to be on the playoff roster. He's done nothing but prove his superiority to Carrera in every way as the ideal 4th OF/go-to PR in our roster.
EMK19 Verified Member Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 So, who do you guys think we should go with for game 2? Stro or Dickey? Going with Dickey would allow us to have him pitch at home with the Dome likely closed (if this current cold weather spell keeps up) in which he's a noticeably better pitcher, but then the guy who goes game 2 is probably also the guy for game 5 if it comes down to that as well, for which I'm sure lot of people would prefer Stro over Dickey...

Uh so we're going with a 3 man rotation in the Ds?

We may not necessarily go with the 3 man rotation but it might be something that has to be strongly considered as an alternative pending on how the series goes (e.g: if we go down 2-0 in the series).
baubau Verified Member Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 Pompey should absolutely make it over Carrera. Its unfortunately 50/50 with Gibby however lol.

In every facet of the game he has better tools than izzz-eeek-iilll. Can add more value. Should be a no brainer. But won't be as you say.

I doubt it's just Gibby's decision. I'm sure the entire coaching staff gets together with AA and the front office personnel to decide.

I'd go with Dickey 100% in Game 2. I want Dickey pitching here. Not in Texas. Not in Arlington.

nextyear Verified Member Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 It seems fairly certain that the 25 man roster will include the following players based on hints from Alex Anthopoulos: (source: http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/blue-jays-gm-anthopoulos-downplays-concerns-about-his-next-contract/) Anthopoulos dropped hints about the playoff roster – they’re going with a four-man rotation; a seven-man bullpen; and they won’t necessarily take a second lefty to complement Brett Cecil, they’ll let the best splits settle that – and once again reflected on winning the American League East. I think the roster could possibly be: Tulowitzki Goins Pennington Donaldson Edwin Colabello Smoak Martin Navarro Carrera Revere Pillar Bautista Pompey Price Stroman Dickey Estrada Osuna Sanchez Hendriks Hawkins Lowe Cecil Loup (unless there is a right-hander with better splits against lefties)
EMK19 Verified Member Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 It certainly looks like they have ZERO confidence in Loup right now, probably rightfully so. I'd say if we're even a bit hesitant in using Loup in a key LOOGY situation then just don't bother taking him at all.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 I'd go with Dickey 100% in Game 2. I want Dickey pitching here. Not in Texas. Not in Arlington. That's fair but I would rather try and go 2-0 as quick as possible and Stroman matching up against Hamels in game 2 gives us that chance. The prospects of us getting more than 3 runs against Hamels are probably pretty low, while Dickey would be more likely to give up 3-5 runs than Stro.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 ^ I think that is the roster. No complaints here, this is our best.

On the contrary I think Dickey gives us just the same chance to win. There is no guarantee we win the first game either. Anything can happen. Jays are the better team, the better team doesn't always win.
