I could be wrong but i think Smoak has a very long swing which makes him hit and miss quite a lot. You don't have the same from Jose and Edwin.

He'd be the same age as Jose in 2010, and EE in 2012 when they started putting up big numbers.

He's consistently put up pretty nice walk rates. Power is undeniable. Pretty even splits.

Sure, why not.

I think you can expect a wRC+ between 105 and 120 for Smoak depending on what his BABIP is. As a platoon 1B he isn't going to have much value either way though.

So between not very good and very good, depending on luck. Going out waaaaaay on a limb there man

Smoak seems to have consistently come up huge in a bunch of really important situations for us...... and then I checked his WPA and he's almost dead last on the team lol.

I don't know why but I have such a soft spot for Justin Smoak. I really shouldn't but I just feel like he could really get his s*** together at any time.

If he can change the mechanics of his swing (and lead it to become a bit shorter in particular), he has enough power to compensate.

Could probably shrink the high end down a bit. Point of the post is we pretty much know what to expect from the BB, SO and ISO rate.

Aside from the numbers alone he shows a propensity for being able to hit the ball away with power fairly consistently and also gets to pitches inside. On the neg as many has said his swing is a little long and his pitch recognition isn't great considering his decent walk rate. Overall this gives me hope he has quite a bit more upside.

Why? You don't know anything. About anything.

Same reason you took him in LOD you transparent obvious cheesefart

Right, because I had a soft spot for him for no reason, dumb s***. I didn't know he was a hit fx superstar until after I grabbed him because Cyborg started with the waterworks.

Rethinking Smoak.

The BB rate is under 10% and the K rate is over 27%. Lost in last nights euphoria was an another abysmal night for him at the plate.

He is consistently overmatched by good breaking balls and his bat looks very slow with a long swing. If he cant address this I'm afraid his ceiling is not very high.

Yea I don't think his future is going to be much more than what we're seeing, though his defense is still outstanding. I'd bet any $ Colabello couldn't turn that DP last night (The lefty advantage of turning 2).

It wasn't lost on me

He continues to disappoint offensively all the time

Of course anything is possible, but it's important to realize how extremely rare it is to have a hitter emerge as an elite talent that late in his career... the fact that we have two is downright remarkable.
