Dunno what to say man....you've been deprived of winning sports teams your whole life I guess. The magic number has always been huge in sports, especially in the MLB because of the difficulty of making the playoffs and the amount of games there is to be played.

The Blue Jays' playoff spot has been solidified for a couple of weeks now, but not one player is celebrating. When/if that magic number against the Yankees hits 0 and the Jays' clinch the division, then you will see stuff like this:

Woohoo...I was at that game.

Never been in a threesome,how old are you,11 ?:P

This is such an odd comment.

Frankly wouldn't expect anything less from a threesome-having 12-year-old who hasn't learned correct space bar usage though.

I managed to get to third base in senior kindergarten but, sadly, failed to have a threesome by the age of 12.

14 for the division, which is all anyone really cares about. Wildcard would be a bit of a disappointment at this point.

Enormously

Anything less than a division championship would be a big disappointment

Gotta be honest too - I'd REALLY like to see the Jays build up a bit of a bigger cushion before they play the Yankees next weekend. I don't want them within 3 games of us going in to that series.

I'd like to see the Jays clinch at home, except that would require a 7 game lead at the end of the home stand which is unlikely.

However, Orioles fans watching the Jays celebrate on their field would be fun to watch.

Still can't forget the 1990 season where we lost the division out to the Red Sox on the final day of the season in Baltimore (though it was Memorial Stadium back then). f*cking Tom Brunansky catch at Fenway... then the Orioles hit the walk off hr off Henke just to rub it in further. Would love for us to clinch the division there this time 25 years later.

Why have you shaded the White and Red Sox from our line of magic numbers, in both cases the magic numbers are 1 and CWS hold the tiebreaker over us for WC1 and for WC2 plus the Red Sox we would need a single game tiebreaker in the unlikely event that they win out and we lose out.

I know at this stage it is just nitpicking but later in the season it could well be misleading when teams start to clinch.

With there being 15 games to go, I fade out teams because the odds of 30 games going exactly right are ridiculously low.

I'll stop doing that when we are done with the Yankees series.

Been busy this weekend covering the Flames training camp, haven't had time to update.

Appreciated. Magic number for the playoffs is down to 4 for WC2, 6 for WC1, 10 for the division and 14 for #1 seed (as opposed to 15 in the above graph - Jays own the tiebreaker). KC's magic number on the Jays is still 13, so really it can go either way for top spot.

I did not include any tie breakers just to avoid confusion, so I strictly put it Max wins + 1. When it gets a bit closer, I'll edit the tie breakers for the Jays only once they've finalized a playoff spot.

Jays have the tie breaker against the Yanks, Royals, Rangers, Minnesota, and Anaheim. So technically you could reduce those #'s by 1 each. Houston is the only one that has the tie breaker on us. Houston swept a 4 game series and the Jays swept a 3 game series.

Those rules are only to determine home field advantage. Ties for division or wild card play a head to head game prior to the wild card game.
