@ShiDavidi: #BlueJays acquire INF Darwin Barney from #Dodgers for cash or PTBNL. In uniform today. Won't be eligible for playoffs.

Guess Tulo is done though press conference in an hour.

But oh so handsome

Barney is a very good defensive 2B, smart to pick him up even if Tulo is only going to miss a couple weeks. I sure hope he's back before end of season though. I know Travis was put on the 60-day but man we could use him back now.

That's the only reason to acquire another infielder.

I wouldn't say that. Any additional depth is welcome in a playoff race like this one, even if Tulo isn't out for the year.

Tulo could very well be done, but even if he isn't there's no sense in not upgrading what's currently on the active roster.

I agree but if Tulo doesn't go down are we seeing this acquisition? Probably not because we have Pennington and Kawasaki on the bench already. This is insurance in case one of them or Goins goes down.

I could be mistaken but I think I remember from MLB the Show a few years back that Barney also plays 3B which could be good if JD needs a day of rest.

f***ingbPillar

Pillar is a frustrating and wreckless player sometimes (ok a lot of the time). The wrecklessness is why he makes some of the plays he does. And also why he brain cramps. But I can't see blaming him for this. He should/could have laid back and I wish he did, but technically it's his ball if he calls. Just really unfortunate.

Pillar's an idiot in this situation for most people because a superstud was the victim. If it was Goins people would be a lot more critical about who shouldn't have been running backwards into the CF's territory. Tulo needed to give way there. It wasn't even a critical play either.

As far as I'm concerned the CF's calls have priority over the SS's. There are very, very few situations in which a SS has a better play than a good CF on pop ups like that. Let the CF call it off. If it falls, it's on him, but don't get in the way.

On a related note, it must be tough for guys like Pillar and Goins to deal with all the egos on the team. Pillar often has to call off Jose and Goins has to stop JD sometimes. I could have sworn that I recently saw a small disagreement between JD and Goins on a play to the left side. Goins snagged the ball and made the play and JD kind of gestured in a "yo, that was mine" kind of way. Not sure if it was joking or not. Easily could have been, but sometimes I wonder how fringe guys take to "captaining" superstars because of positional priority.

I actually like this a lot more than Penny. Wouldn't be too upset if the Jays could retain him as depth next year in the minors.

I am not sure what you have against Pennington, he is good defensively and put up decent offensive numbers in the past.

Nothing against anyone, I just like it more. It's like, if the Jays got Hayward I'd like it but if they got Harper I'd love it more. B > A for me doesn't mean I hate A. :P

Yeah, it was Pillar's ball, and he WAS calling for it. Pretty tough to look up on a play like that to make sure everyone else bails. Goins heard him and bailed. As you said, it was just unfortunate.

Heyward in the OF next year would be a mighty fine addition. I've been suggesting it for a few weeks now (not to anyone who matters, though).

I checked darwin Barney's stats again and he is not as bad offensively as I thought - http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=2430&position=2B . He seems to be a Ryan Goins type of player (mostly defense with some offense) and since I am a Goins fan I might become a Darwin Barney fan also.

Too bad that Barney won't be eligible for the playoffs, if Tulowitzki isn't back then Kawasaki will need to be added to the 25 man playoff roster.

Are you implying that the posters on this board don't matter? I'm hurt, wok!

Pennington's bat is about 20 shades of awful. In the last 4 years among all qualified hitters, Pennington has the 20th WORST wRC+ in all of baseball (9th worst among all qualified SS). He is legitimately a liability with the bat. Barney can at least do something. Not to mention Barney is actually better defensively than Pennington at 2B.

How are the Blue Jays able to get a player like Darwin Barney without the Yankees trying to block it? Wouldn't Barney have to go through waivers?

I would think he passed through waivers a while ago. They probably waived him in early August.

I remember really liking barney's game when he was with the cubs.

was almost a 5 WAR player in 2012

At the time submitting this message you have 6,726 posts. Your Right counter is at 25. That means you've been wrong 6701 times. If posts were OBP, you'd be at .003.

So no, you don't matter. Get back to the little leagues and learn how to wok.

Pillar is getting flak because Tulo is a superstar. I get it, everyone, including me, is disappointed he's hurt. But in a team sport, you put star status aside. The superstar doesn't make the play because he's a star, he makes the play if it's his play. And position determines plays. The CF has first priority in the outfield. He has the right to call off the RF or LF for any ball because he's the CF, same for calling off the 2B and SS in shallow centre. That's baseball. Doesn't matter who the other players are, star or replacement level. Makes for consistency. Can't have the same ball one day be Tulo's and the next day it's Pillar's if Tulo has the day off and a AAA is playing.

It's the same in every sport. The person with the best view from the back takes priority on defence. In baseball, that's the CF; in soccer, its the sweeper (unless the goalie calls him off), etc.

Pillar may be reckless at times, but he's the CF, it's his ball. Doesn't matter if it's Tulo/Bautista or Kawasaki/Carrera; the CF has priority.
