HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 God damnit Travis please come back
nextyear Verified Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Kawasaki is never a better option than Goins. Goins has been waiting to be put in this position his whole life and you think he's tired? C'mon bro.. Players are human and get tired. This should be done for Goins sake, I am thinking that they should rest him 1 - 2 games a weeks. Goins might prefer to play but he will play better if he is adequately rested; for Goins to be effective he has to be at 100%.
ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 AA: "if we had to guess, 2-3 weeks and he will be back for October"
ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 AA: "Will know more in a few days. Has been a few NFL players that have had similar injuries. Some of our guys are talking to teams in the NFL"
ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 AA: "if he comes back he may still be playing with some discomfort"
Billy Bats Verified Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 He'll be out for September.
EMK19 Verified Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 As far as having to deal with a major injury during the season, we've been a bit more lucky than previous years. Saunders and maybe Travis to a degree are the only major ones that I can think of. There has been a lot of frustrating minor yet lingering injuries though, like Reyes' ribs, Bats' shoulder issues, EE's finger, Buehrle's dead arm, Martin's legs, etc...
ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 AA does not sound optimistic that even if Travis comes back he can contribute much. "Maybe an occasional start. A pinch hit here or there. At this point it's been so long that his timing would be gone."
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Reminds me of the Dave Parker move in 1991, an insurance for the stretch drive even if not available for playoffs. We also can't forget the fact that Pennington is also supposed to be our backup at third in case god forbid JD can't play for whatever reason (Since they'd probably be uneasy using Bautista or EE at 3rd at this point in the yr, as they haven't seen time there all season), I'm sure that was also considered from the depth perspective. Uh.. Matt Hague says hello. He's on the roster and can play 3B.
nextyear Verified Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Today's lineup without Tulowitzki. Moving Pillar up in the batting order would work if Pillar suddenly learned some plate discipline. Normally it would be Martin instead of Thole and Encarnacion instead of Colabello at DH; substitute these two players and the offensive lineup still looks good.
EMK19 Verified Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 As I figured, a vague presser, nothing definite, only speculative and hopeful.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Well, at least we got some nice weather for today's game.
Leafs2726 Verified Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Gotta move on thinking we're not getting these guys back. If we do, it's a bonus. Keep plugging away. Players have to step up.
EMK19 Verified Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Uh.. Matt Hague says hello. He's on the roster and can play 3B. As I understand it he's primarily a 1B and 3B is more his secondary, the main reason he's been brought up seems to me to pinch hit rather than as a legit depth 3B guy (which can be proven by Pennington taking over 3B late in those blowouts, not Hague), but point taken, he's one option (but likely more of a last resort).
ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Tulo's shoulder is cracked at the point of impact with Pillar's chin. Jesus.
BarrytheMidgetDavis Verified Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Who's that scary guy behind Tulo sticking the iPhone in his face
Effit Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Pillar's chin is a lethal weapon.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Pillar batting sixth vs Tanaka is dumb.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Sounds like if its the last week of the season and Jays are looking like they will clinch the division he will want until the playoffs. Definitely better than I thought, I was expecting him to be out for a month or 2.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Winning the first three allows me to be okay with losing this one (obv hoping for the sweep). With the off day tomorrow, and interleague next series, hoping eddy is fine to go next weekend.

Yeah, it's pretty much similar to what we had before the Tulo trade, just Revere in place of Reyes who is more or less contributing similarly offensively (if not better). And that offence was already pretty good (though Travis is missed we also had a spell of good ball while being without him in there).
ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 My wife works in rehabilitation and she says there is a machine that can promote quicker healing for bones. Could be why it's 2-3 weeks rather than the usual 4-6. Maybe labadee can weigh in on that?
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Pillar batting sixth vs Tanaka is dumb. Either him or goins. Not a big deal considering I expect neither to do well

93 Jays Verified Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Depends on what kind of "crack" they're talking about? I have to assume they mean he suffered some sort of hairline fracture. The good news is that these typically do heal within 4-6 weeks with proper rest and rehab. The bad is that this is a bad injury for an infielder to have. Every single throw aggravates it big time and it's one of those injuries that lingers without proper rest, meaning an entire offseason, Depending on where the crack is, he should be able to return as a DH come playoff time. I just don't see any scenario whatsoever where he is back at SS this year. I've worked for a physio clinic many years back and I've seen this type of injury before......not on a ball player mind you. But a clean break is almost always better than a fracture as far as how the injury heals. IMO, the best they can do is to rest him for 2 weeks and see where his mobility is at from there.
EMK19 Verified Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 I'm actually worried that Pillar may go out there today and actually try too hard to hit everything at the plate, feeling responsible for what happened yesterday and trying to redeem himself... which is probably the worst thing he can do... I really would be in favour of giving Pompey a game in place of him but of course to Gibby Carrera > Pompey so....

Thankfully at least it's not his throwing shoulder, but I'd assume it'd still affect his fielding in terms of his range, stretching to his right/left for the ball...
nextyear Verified Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Are you trolling or serious??! I am serious, if Pillar swung at only good pitches he would be making consistently hard contact. He is able to make contact with pitches well out of the strike zone, just imagine if he was a patient hitter who waited for good pitches to swing at. He has 10 home runs, so for me to say that he is a natural hitter who can hit with power shouldn't be hard to believe. His minor league wRC+ has always been good and he had a wRC+ 150 in June - http://www.fangraphs.com/statsd.aspx?playerid=12434&position=OF&type=&gds=2015-06-02&gde=2015-06-30&season=
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
