BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 I think the Rogers Centre is perfectly located where it is. It's a staple of downtown Toronto, I would be really disappointed to see it moved. Don't think moving it is a option!!! Lol
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 We already have the Greatest Rogers improvement in place this year and in years!!! A f***ing winning and Playoff Team! Suxx it Grass ! Lol I will take the team.
fapaholic Verified Member Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 How subway-accessible would that be? It wouldn't be. Currently that area is served by buses only I believe which would suck for ball games. There would need to be massive upgrades to transit over there for it to happen. Also some of that land over there is now part of Pinewood studios which is a pretty big hunk of land. I'm not 100% familiar with the area, but I think it's located in the area of those supposed plans.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 I'll never be convinced how much better it would be without an optional roof, you know your tickets are good the day you bought them. The actual playing surface is another story but I think having the option to close a stadium is excellent. It's sort of too bad we have the ugliest retractable roof stadium but we can't just replace it with minute maid park. The Governator is a man's man. I echo this.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Oh man, the dome would look sexy if the inside was painted blue and white Joking? US Cellular looked like s*** when they had all blue seats. Then when they went to the dark green, it was a huge improvement.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 disagree. who actually enjoys sitting in the rain watching baseball? you see in other stadiums how the fans clear out when it's raining? the whole point of having a roof would be to avoid that BS. I agree. If the temperature is either too cold, or too hot. Too bad, roof open. If it rains.....or snows. Then close it.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 I don't know if dark blue will work (nice effort though!), but maybe even do a brick look. I don't know, but that concrete is meh. They should grow ivy on the exterior. Or install green walls with vegetation around the park.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Downvote. Baseball is played outside. Bring a hat, wear sunscreen, bring water. Agree
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 Specifically of these two moments: http://www.cbc.ca/sports-content/baseball/opinion/assets_c/2012/09/620-roberto-alomar-thumb-620xauto-226976.jpg http://www.kimplicity.com/fkim/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/mlb_g_carter01_412.jpg I was also thinking, if Toronto ever bid on an Olympics, that the Blue Jays could use that as a chance to get a new stadium. And if Toronto actually won a bid, they absolutely would need a new stadium. When Atlanta hosted the Olympics, they converted their Olympic stadium into a ball park. A new Olympics stadium would need a tenant, so why not the Jays? Early plans for the 2008 bid had a stadium at the Port Lands: http://www.blogto.com/upload/2015/07/20150727-Olympic-Render.jpg A park, built near the water, with the city in the background, could be great. GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 C'mon - if given the option, 100% of people prefer not to get rained on. I agree with this. But for god sakes, the temperature cannot be an excuse.
Art Vandelay Verified Member Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 Made a quick mock of what a pnc like park would be on the port lands http://i.imgur.com/4mfo9QB.jpg Awesome. Here's my attempt: http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o241/t3cii/jays_zpsawhplhfy.jpg
labadee Verified Member Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 I agree with this. But for god sakes, the temperature cannot be an excuse. sure it can. it's supposed to be an enjoyable experience for the fans as well, if it's too cold, no one will come. they generally leave the roof open even if it's hot, yesterday was one of the hottest days of the year and they opened it after the risk of thunderstorms passed
Jayzfan79 Verified Member Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 we pack Mosaic in Regina in below freezing temperatures. weather to not build an outdoor stadium is an excuse.
Rajais Mitten Verified Member Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 we pack Mosaic in Regina in below freezing temperatures. weather to not build an outdoor stadium is an excuse. That is totally different, the main reason being nothing happens when it rains/snows usually for a Football game.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2015 Author Posted September 4, 2015 we pack Mosaic in Regina in below freezing temperatures. weather to not build an outdoor stadium is an excuse. They also sell 9 home games a year. Jays have 81. No one is going to go sit in the cold in April to watch the White Sox on a monday night.
labadee Verified Member Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 Toronto already isn't a desirable location for FA in baseball (for whatever reason). Why don't we just go make it even more undesirable by having them play in freezing cold temperatures in April

You're right the temps may not be all that different, but are you willing to give FA more excuses not to join your city? I for sure wouldn't. And do you really think the MLB will cater to the jays?
BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 Awesome. Here's my attempt: http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o241/t3cii/jays_zpsawhplhfy.jpg Looks nice but throw a retractable roof over that s***.
Jayzfan79 Verified Member Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 0-9! 0-9! facebook feeds in the city are funny as hell on gameday....but the new stadium is looking hella nice so far.

Like how can Canadians sit in sub zero temps for Winter Classic Hockey games and make it known they love being in the bitter cold to watch it. And a couple months later, but not nearly as cold as the Winter Classic temps they're screaming at Guest Service people because it's chilly out? If it's too hot you move your way around the park as to not be sitting in the sun and let some other muppets take it.

'Cause Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 Do you know what people will say if Rogers Centre is painted a solid blue? They'll say this: "Wow that's ugly" Don't paint the damn building blue. Don't even suggest it or give anyone ideas. It's not your bedroom FFS. Other people have to look at it too.
NaturalGrass Verified Member Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 I'd be willing to bet the Turf would be a much bigger issue than the weather for FA's. 'Cause Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs. I haven't been to a game since the strike. I will start going to games again if/when they ever install natural grass.
bronson44 Verified Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 I haven't been to a game since the strike. I will start going to games again if/when they ever install natural grass. It seems to be very important to you
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 What can I say, artificial turf is an abomination. It's like the new Yankees Stadium of playing surfaces. So the turf wasn't a problem before the strike but 21 years later its now the only reason you won't go to a game?
Art Vandelay Verified Member Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 A poster on the Urban Toronto boards posted his photoshop of the stadium with a few improvements. http://urbantoronto.ca/forum/attachments/renovated-rogers-centre-jpeg.54680/ While I don't think the red brick works, I do like the green seats and wall, although I really can't see them changing them to a different colour.
