Nafro Verified Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Just for his first at bat. A nice reception of appreciation; for playing hard and bleeding blue while here. Than after that, he goes to being the "them" of us against them.

BTS Community Moderator Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Meh. He didn't accomplish anything here and always came off as a complete jackass.
Effit Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 I don't think the majority of fans have any hard feelings for him, and it doesn't hurt that he's Canadian. If I was at the game I would stand up and give him a nice welcome back.
Nafro Verified Member Posted August 11, 2015 Author Posted August 11, 2015 Meh. He didn't accomplish anything here and always came off as a complete jackass. You just described 60-70 percent of all professional athletes.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Meh. He didn't accomplish anything here and always came off as a complete jackass. Pretty much this. He did get us donaldson and for that he should get four standing ovations.
Effit Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Lol BTS. I always enjoyed watching him play, although I enjoy JD a lot more...
LTR Verified Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Meh. He didn't accomplish anything here and always came off as a complete jackass. That's like the most arbitrary statement... other than making the play-offs how does a player 'accomplish something'? 8 WAR over 1400 PA's is pretty good if you ask me.
Governator Community Moderator Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Brett's grand slam celebration during his first week after getting called up was against the A's nonetheless, and my all time favourite Lawrie moment. I have zero ill will towards Lawrie and every GM in the league would have moved him for Donaldson.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 So everyone here is going to completely forget all the 2011 fapping. 2.5 WAR less than 50 games.
canadiansportsjunkie Verified Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 He plays the game hard. I respect that He's an amazing athlete not an amazing baseball player which confused most
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 So everyone here is going to completely forget all the 2011 fapping. 2.5 WAR less than 50 games. I remember it fondly. I bought my fake Lawrie jersey off one of those Chinese websites and thought he was going to be the next franchise player and someone to follow for the next decade. Then I realized he drinks too may red bulls and it was all downhill from there. Anyone want to buy a Lawrie jersey?
Yankeerespect Verified Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 As a yankee I always liked lawrie. Thought he just had some bad luck. I know some of his injuries were from effort and that's a lot different than just being glass in my book
zeemazing2015 Verified Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Lawrie was so amazing. I remember him hitting that 3 run homerun to win the game. Greatest 2011 moment.

I disagree that he came off as a complete jackass. I heard rumours of him being a difficult teammate in the minors, but in terms of fan friendly he was fantastic. I was fortunate enough to go to a game where we sat in the action seats and got to watch BP on the field before the game, and Brett was by far the most willing to take photos and sign balls. He made sure every single one of us at BP (there were about 100 of us) got time with him. No other player came even close to spending that much time. Most ignored us. A few came over for a couple snaps but then left everyone else hanging. He made everyone's day that night. I wish him nothing but the best in Oakland!

Than after that, he goes to being the "them" of us against them. Agree completely. Objectively, he might be a douche, but he's still one of the best current Canadian ball players, and a guy who probably tried too hard as a Blue Jay. The crowd reaction to him will say something about Blue Jays fans, collectively. I'm not sure exactly what, but something.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Was he really that much of a jackass? He threw a helmet at an ump, big deal, he deserved it.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 The casuals loved him, i'm expecting a solid cheer tomorrow.
Effit Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 I'm not a casual, nor did I 'love' him..but I would still give him a welcome back cheer.

I hear he's a giant ******* off the field, I'd believe it too. I have no opinion of him either way, average player, at least he was the final piece to land Donaldson. so err, thanks Brett.

Than after that, he goes to being the "them" of us against them. I think it would be classy. Lawrie was young and intense. It was exciting as hell the year he broke in but he never matched that again. I like the fire he plays with and the last couple years he seems more in control, results aside. He and Danny V were quality Jays in my books and Id give them a welcome back and then hope they both get golden sombreros.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Outside of Alomar, I can't think of a former player that wasn't treated well by the Toronto fans when he returned. ...maybe Clemens too. I don't recall how fans reacted but I can understand if there was disdain.
