I don't hate the deal, but this is a win for Colorado.

They get rid of Tulo who'll start to decline in a year or two and replace him with Reyes. Reyes may not be on Tulo's level but he's still a very good player, and they aren't committed to him for five more years. On top of that they get two great prospects, one who would have been a top five pick before TJ. Now if they flip Reyes for a couple more pieces, they're essentially have a huge haul for Tulo.

No, just no.

With all the doubts of Toronto being able to move Reyes, why do people assume Colorado is going to be able to easily flip him? Do they have millions that they can eat that I am unaware of?

He may not be a $20M/year player but he's still a very good player. Someone will be interested especially coming down the deadline. Dodgers could use a SS.

I've never called it a bad deal. I just don't think it's the slam dunk win a lot of people seem to think it is.

I'm not sure many are calling it a slam dunk. It's good for the Rockies, especially if they can move Reyes for even a B prospect. And it's easy to imagine a scenario where this goes wrong for the Jays. It's a very solid trade IMO.

That's my opinion. I think it's an upgrade for us, but it's a great move by Colorado imo.

You are really overestimating how easy it's going to be to trade Reyes. There are not many teams that would take him for free.

"Say what bro?!"

But no seriously, I doubt the Dodgers would make the financial commitment when they have Seager and Olivera with a focus to likely resign Kendricks. I mean, could it? Sure. If the Rockies ate a ton of salary but I don't Friedman would take on that commitment with what he has available in the wings.

Have to agree. Rockies got rid of a long term contract and got prospects in return. We received an injury prone allstar in a position that we weren't really weak. If it was a injury prone allstar pitcher this would have been a great trade. We only improve now as a team by 1-2 wins at best and we have a long way to go to get a playoff spot.

Yes, but it will be hard to get rid if Reyes (I think).... though he will not need to be moved by the deadline, because he will pass through waivers. Deals where both teams win are my favorite. I hope all the guys we gave up have productive careers and I hope Tulo helps us.

Sure, someone might want him but not without a huge chunk of salary being taken on by the Rockies. At 24 million a year (that's incorporating the 4 million buyout) they would have to assume at least 20 million. And even then what sort of prospects could they realistically expect back.....I don't think very much. Feels like if they just offered to eat 20 million of Tulo's contract and shopped him around that they could have gotten more back.

The unfortunate thing for the Jays the trade will be judged by team stats (wins) whereas the Colorado side will be judged by the players.

I think we were. I thought Reyes was pretty weak. At least on the field he was.

Do you know how good Tulowitzki is when healthy? He is easily twice as good as a healthy Reyes. And Tulo's bat can play at DH

If they chip in a bit they will get better prospects back, like if Col paid 3-5m/yr on the balance of the deal. If they flip reyes for a mid level prospect with some upside they get a great deal. I really think if they trade Gonzalez then Reyes will be a goner too.

It will be very interesting to see what happens with Reyes. If they can even dump him for nothing, backing out of the Tulo contract and picking up Hoffman, Castro, and Tinoco is a pretty safe move for a team going nowhere in the near future. I imagine they might eat cash to move him though.

I think you will see Tulo DH a bit for the remaining part of the season (although not alot). When you have an offense that looks like this it is easier to put Goins in the 9 hole with his glove more often.

Not really. .217 BABIP. HR's and BB's are there.

Only thing that really jumps out is his .217 BABIP. Everything else looks really good.

Uhhh

Tulo likely will DH 1-2 times per week, day after night game.

I may have heard of the guy and know about him.

He's also 31 this year.

I didn't like the Marlins trade and didn't like the Dickey trade, and everyone wanted to argue against my opinion on those trades too. Like I said I love Tulo and it's a great upgrade, I was just saying Colorado made out really good here, it was a good move by them. I think we both win the trade but Colorado made out really well.

Thank god. That means less of Navarro and more of Goins ^___________^

I was trying to think back on big trades the Rockies have made and realized that they don't really ever make any. What a weird org.

Agreed. It's really good to see the BB% go back to normal levels for Tulo.

As much as I agree with you, I think we're on the receiving end of this tweet:

Fairservice is f***ing great.
